Zuni jewelry
Hi,
I will be traveling to Albuquerque for my first time this weekend and I am so excited. I really would like to find some great Zuni jewelry when I am there. Can anyone recommend some good areas / shops that specialize in this type of jewelry? I am specifically looking for mens inlay cuff bracelets. Should I go to Gallup? I have heard that there are stands / stores along the highways that sell this type of jewelry. Any advice on locations to look ? Thank you everyone!!

Actually, if you can, you should go to Zuni itself and buy direct from the source. We like the Craftsman Co-op as it seems to give the most $$ directly back to the artist. Selection there is fairly limited. Some artists also sell from their homes ( there will be signs ) and from the Arts and Craft Store on Hwy 53.
Here's a link to the pueblo's website..... The Pueblo of Zuni

Bien Mur, on Sandia Pueblo across Tramway from the casino, usually has a good number of Zuni pieces. Don't overlook the Navajo jewelry either, it's can be as good or better as Zuni.

Don't overlook any native american jewelry. Its all beautiful.
I have to agree with Karma, go directly to the artist. Buy local, and you know what you are getting. Its not that far to Zuni pueblo.

You could try the Plaza up here in Santa Fe.
The Palace of the Governors has Native American jewelry being sold by a large number of Indian craftsmen from many of the pueblos and Navajo lands. They MUST sell authentic jewelry there or lose their right to sell jewelry at the Governor's Palace.
I agree with the others -- Zuni jewelry is outstanding, but don't limit yourself -- there are many beautiful pieces of jewelry being sold by all the craft people who sell there, and at a great variety. And many of them like to talk to you about their work.

Towanda is right about the Palace of the Governors, where you can buy directly from the artist.
I meant to mention above that you will also be impressed with the fine jewelry coming from Kewa Pueblo (formerly Santo Domingo).

Be careful buying jewelry right off the freeway. Chances are you may get low quality things from China.

Probably saw this thread too late for OP, but a wonderful place in Santa Fe (co-op) if you cannot make it directly to an artist.
