I have been following NM politics for some time and I personally find it a joke! APS is just a microeconomic example of the corruption in the state. I used to read the ABQ Journal religiously while I lived there and it is always the same thing, everything is underfunded, no one can explain where the money is and then, there is always this "Anglo vs Hispanic" rivalry. Regarding APS, I would not EVER enroll my children in any APS school. There was even an article in US News a few years ago and it talked about parents with kids in the APS telling them not go to college because that is a "White people" thing. Now, imagine what it would be like to be a teacher in a district where parents tell their kids not to go to college. The "loser mentality" is just too ingrained in the people. I feel like some of these APS schools function more like gang recruitment centers than actual schools.

I completed my last three years of high school at APS a number of years ago. The academics were way easier than what I was used to in California.
Basically, it was like daycare & somewhere to put teenagers until they are around 18. I get the impression it has not changed over the years, and now there's the gang situation added. |

APS is rife with incompetence, overcrowding, poor planning, mismanagement and scandal.
