If anyone remembers my thread about the new vending machines at Cottonwood Mall, here is a new thread about a new one at UNM.

Well, today is the start of the UNM Spring 2011 semester, so I decided to stop by Mitchell Hall, and to my surprise, a brand new Dixie-Narco BevMax 4 glass-front vending machine (WITH LED LIGHTING!) has been installed. When I stopped there this morning the machine wasn't filled yet, however, I can't wait to try it out.

Unfortunately though, the unreliable Vendo Vue machines at Dane Smith haven't been replaced. Hopefully they get replaced eventually.

Wow.. I never thought someone could get so worked up about vending machines, but after having to change out a CFL bulb in one of mine (VERY unusual size and almost nobody stocks them), LED lighting is a big improvement.

I remember a soda vending machine in college which had an unusual flaw: one of the drink selections was basically free. You'd put in your money, push that one button, and you'd get the soda. Then you could push it, again, and again, until the machine was empty. It never registered as "sold", but it only worked with that one flavor. Even after it was empty, you could push the drink you wanted and get one. Got kinda bizarre having strangers and friends randomly hand you an unopened soda that you didn't ask for. It got to be such common knowledge, that the machine routinely ran out of that soda minutes after it was refilled.

I haven't had that flavor of soda since, and it's been 15 years.. funny how that works.
