I'm in RR, not ABQ but so far my favorite things are the amazing weather (little to no humidity) and the laid back attitude! I'm so sick of the "keeping up with the Jones' attitude"!

I am new and I am VERY sorry but that statement made me LOL!
I'd hate to think ABQ has days where the sun never rises.

Great Info!
Thanks Tim Rankin, I appreciate your information, I was wondering where to live. I saw that complex and it is saved to my favorites so I will be looking into it. It sounds like what I am looking for.

What I like and appreciate about this area of the world are the people. They don't have an "attitude". They're friendly, helpful, and honest.
Add to that the incredible vistas and local culture and you've got yourself a good place to live.
Take it from one who, at age 63, has lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, and Brazil.

Hi folks,
I just wanted to say "THANK YOU" for all your great suggestions!! I put together a couple of short slide shows of the scenes along the way. I have more photos, but I had limited room.
However, I DID make it to the Frontier restaurant in Albuquerque -- TWICE! My daughter, Celene, adored Nob Hill and got herself some clothes at the Buffalo Exchange, and something at Masks y Mas. We DID get to El Pinto! Thanks for that, because we NEVER would have found it on our own!! What a delightful experience!
We, unfortunately, left some clothing behind in Truth or Consequences, and had to shop the first day to replace them (it was too far to go back), so we lost some time and couldn't make it to the Jemez Hot Springs, but we DID get to Madrid! So, we took the drive up the Turquoise Trail. And, of course, we also did Old Town!!
My daughter just loved Albuquerque -- all the mixed cultures and laid-back lifestyle.
Again, thank you so much! I never would have known all the things to take in so easily!
Okay, and now on with the show:

The Land of Enchantment is All That!!!
I originally moved from central Texas to go to the pharmacy program at UNM at never really thought twice about what I was getting into.. I spent 6 years in this great city exploring all the cool areas, from Old Town to Nob Hill and it really grows on ya.... I have many friends that refused to leave but I did and I totally regret it... I am moving back with my family as soon as our house sells and we are planning on making this our permanent home... This state has SO much to offer, from the friendly residents to the beautiful scenery and all the outdoor activities to keep you and your family busy. My old stomping grounds was the Jemez mountains and just that area can keep you and your family busy for years!!! With so much history and beautiful art, you can't go wrong with a decision to make Albuquerque your home. My wife and I just recently visited to attend a wedding and were so blown away at all the things that make this great city/area unique that we scrapped our plans to move closer to family in Texas and decided to make the plunge again, in the great southwest... This area is truly an enchanted area with much to offer... From the Jemez, Sandia, and Manzano mountains the true unique culture of NM life, I find it very hard to beat when compared to any area.... Here's some of the things I find fun...
-Ponderosa Winery in the Jemez
-Good food: the list can go on and on... Sadies, Casa de Benevidas, Frontier, Hurricanes (burritos w/chile and cheese on top), El Pinto, Garcias, and the list goes on and on.... Getting good food like this is impossible anywhere else....
-Hiking, hiking, hiking.... So many areas for those true outdoorsmen who love to hike in the woods. Some of my best memories were spent in the many mtn areas around the Albuquerque area...
-Fly fishing is top notch in the 4 corners region with the San Juan river for those who like to get a line wet here and there...
-The weather is the best anywhere I have been... True 4 seasons weather with a touch of snow that usually melts in a day or two...
-Art: the art scene is top notch but is usually focused on SW scenery but if you're here you love what you see.... Santa Fe and outlying areas provide much of the art scene but you'll see your decent share here in ABQ.
-Baloon Fiesta is the best of the best for peeps wanting to see the dramatic scenery and uniqueness of ABQ, I can't tell you how many times I have pulled over on the side of the road heading to school (and being late to class) while the Fiesta is going on....
-Hatch green chile!!!! This wonderful town that produces much of the "flavor" of NM is located south of ABQ but is much appreciated and deserves a visit...
-Skiing is abundant and can be done on the other side of the Sandia mtns.... Taos is not far and has nice snow in the winter... Remember, Colorado is not too far and would make a nice vacation..
-Sunsets are second to none in this entire planet.... I really believe that.. They occur daily and the next one is only 24 hours away!!! Views from the foothill trails make you love the area you work and live in even more...
-Driving times to major cities is small and managable if you have interests there.
For those who want a slower pace to the normal daily grind, ABQ is the place!! I am proud to say that our mind has been made up and we are heading back to our true home!!!

There is a big difference between the sun's physical rise in the daytime sky and a real, authentic, only-in-the-Southwest sunrise and / or sunset. Big, big difference.
