Just wanted to know if there are any permits etc needed to have 6-10 laying hens in a coop in Rio Rancho or for that matter (1) goat on the premises? Anyone have any info on this?

I bet they are fine to have in Placitas.

I've seen them in N. Sandia Acres.

According to the city's website:

"Livestock - You cannot own domestic livestock, unless your property is zoned for it. This includes, farm animals (horses, pigs, goats, sheep, cows), fowl (ducks, chickens, geese, peacocks). Ordinance 90.30"

Yep, maybe you've seen them in N. Sandia Acres.

You can also see chickens in Corrales, and Gabritos too!

And you can see chickens in Albuquerque with one rooster also!

But the lady from Rio Rancho told my wife, "if it's in the Old McDonald song, then you can't have it in Rio Rancho"...

There are chickens all over Albuquerque. Goats in the valley. I can't believe RR restricts chickens. I mean NYC allows chickens.

That, or I was hallucinating. That could happen.

Of course, seeing them & them being there is not the same as it being legal there.

I'd be thrilled if every dog in my neighborhood was replaced with a chicken...even roosters.
