Wife had one run out of front her today as she was heading out to work.

Anyone have any experience with them? Are they usually wary/scared of humans? Obviously I will be keeping a very safe distance, I'm just worried that I might have them prowling my back garden since all we have is open space behind us.

Yikes!
Your wife is probably lucky she didn't lose a bumper!

I saw one very close to the mouth of Embudito canyon. This was before houses were built right up to the parking area there, though.

I don't doubt that they still pass through the area but more likely at night or when human activity is low.

I have not seen one in over 10 years, and never in New Mexico, but they are in the area.

Take a look at our Bobcat thread: http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-m...29-bobcat.html

Those taken on base are a few miles behind the golf course (to the East). Pretty isolated area, except there are some facilities there with humans and smell of food. They have been there for years.

I can see the golf course from my house, not that far at all. We see Coyotes up along the fence all the time now so not strange that a bobcat wandered.

Well, I guess you might have Senior Bobcat near you.

We have had bears in Rio Rancho from the Sandias...

We live about 1/4 mile or so from the Embudito trailhead. We see a bobcat from time to time. Here are the last two visitors we had hanging out in our yard.

We've got a family of 3 bobcats that live near our place. I've seen them 3 times in the past 6 months, each time at around 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

They're furtive and keep to themselves.
