Thanks for starting this thead! I just made reservations at one place for Thursday, my friend couldn't understand how I knew about the place - she'd just heard about it a week or two ago. Then just suggested another spot to some different friends for Saturday, that friend has lived in ABQ for many years and said she thought she knew all the good spots and was surprised I suggested somewhere she hasn't been yet. Now they're wondering how I know all this (like I'm going to tell, ha!). Thanks y'all!

Ohhhh man, reading this thread makes me terribly homesick for Albuquerque, and I have only been away for a few months. ABQ is great for many reasons, one of which is FOOD!

Here is my list:

MEXICAN (eg: not New Mexican)
-Adelita's (4th and Montano)
-El Sabor de Juarez (Gibson Blvd., east of I-25)
-Mariscos Altamar (I-40 and Coors)

NEW MEXICAN
-Barelas Coffee House (1502 4th St SW)
-Garcia's Kitchen (multiple locations; the best ones are the older ones near Downtown)
-Sadies (on 4th St.)
-Los Cuates (the original and smallest one on Lomas Blvd.)

VARIED
-Frontier (on Central)
-Flying Star (various locations...I really like the Downtown one)
-Range Cafe (various locations...I really like the one on Menaul)

PIZZA
-Dion's (various locations)

THAI
-Siam Cafe (San Mateo and Osuna Blvd.)

Overall, I would rank the Mexican places (3), Barelas, the Range Cafe and Frontier as my favorites, probably in this order:

1) Frontier
2) Adelita's
3) Mariscos Altamar
4) El Sabor de Juarez
5) Barelas
6) Range Cafe

You cannot go wrong with any of these.

Man, I miss ABQ dining.

EnjoyEP, I found a few new restaurants you'd love here. I know you like Gorditas and El Pais on Bridge (little dive) is wonderful. There's a new Salvadorian restaurant at Bridge & Goff called Pupuseria de Restarante............very good.

Comeon now, finmqa1...don't make it even harder on me! Just kidding, those both sound great, please eat heartily doubly at each for me! At least others should have the opportunity!

I actually think I have seen El Pais before I moved, and it did look wonderful (if it is the one that I am thinking of). And I would be totally interested in a Salvadorian place, I have never eaten that cuisine and am sure I would love it.

Finmqa1...also...your post reminded me of an addition to my list - I cannot believe I left it off!!

***Ruben's Mexican Grill on Eubank and Candelaria approximately. THIS is my favorite ABQ restaurant (at least that I have dined at). A little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place owned, operated, and chef'd by Ruben. Just tremendous, and cheap, Mexican food - terribly authentic. Gorditas are to die for there.

Wow, do I miss eating ABQ cuisine.

Gosh...good call on Griff's! You NEVER see Griff's on lists for ABQ, but man, they have GREAT burgers there! They are always SLAMMED around lunchtime.

Also, I know this is polarizing, but green chile cheeseburgers at Blake's are in my book pretty darn stellar too.

I agree, if you can get past Blake's frustrating service, they probably make the best fast food in the state.
