Is Chiles even an authentic representation of Dallas food? Is there an authentic Dallas food?

Not that I'm aware of. Dallas is too much of a melting pot of a population. It's rare that you will find a native Dallasite, it can happend, but it is pretty rare. I know a few. Of course, more are being born in the local hospitals every day. As for Dallas having its own unique quisine, I have not encountered it. Chili's has prided itself on its chili, touting some Terlingua Chili champinships, but that was years ago. That chili is pretty standard fare in Tex mex cooking, poured over everything from enchiladas to chili rellenos, nachos, etc. It is not the red sauce that this native ABQ dearly misses.

Can you get the '505' brand of sauces in Texas? If so, they make a decent red chile sauce.

Default Fav

My fav place to eat is Ortega's Mexican Grill on Wyoming and Commnache. I'm biased. My cousin is the owner. I love the Plato Grande with red and green chile.

Blue Goose Cantina on Lower Greenville. Cheese tacos are to die for and you can't beat buttered hot-off-the-tortilla-maker tortillas.

Dang. Now I'm going to crave Tex-Mex all weekend.

Ohhh! That's a great pity. I mean, I made burritos in a dorm room in Scotland because the supermarket there had Old El Paso, and as I dug into an admittedly average tex-mex meal, I thought to myself 'Not bad for Scotland'. The British students I was with thought it was great, though :-)

Now that sounds pretty good. If I'm ever in Dallas... You know, forced landing, mandatory mass exodus from New Mexico due to political instability, groovy hippie kidnapping...

Blue Goose is pretty good. I haven't been there is a few years. They like to fatten you up with the serving portions. The tamales are really good.

Default Mine....probably not yours...

Well, I've been in ALB for a week now and I was jumping for joy when I came across PONCHOS...the mexican buffet. I grew up in El Paso and we used to go there all the time. They shut down midway through my high school years and I was depressed. Now 8 years later, there it is. It may not be the best food in town, but don't you just get a little excited when you raise that little flag...........
