I find the Melting Pot not my style, and to me, High Finance's ambiance and location far makes up for what it lacks in food.

My family's been celebrating special occasions at Paul's for at least 30 years, still as good as it ever was. Best crab legs you'll find in the middle of the country, and the prime rib is great. I like the feel of the place, kind of has that 30's social club thing going.
Only change from my childhood is that it's lost the thick layer of smoke, Otherwise, exactly like I remember.

My mom & dad have taken me to Paul's Monterrey Inn since the 70's. The place used to be run by Paul, but now his son has taken over for the last decade or so. I don't think the place's decor has changed at all since I first went there... and that's a good thing. I love all of the old dives & diners of yesteryear. I think it's a shame that a lot of them are not around much any more. I still lament the day that Bob Burns in Santa Monica was torn down and replaced by a Houston's Steakhouse. That was one of the best dives ever and I miss the place.
For a great meal and dining experience you will never forget, go to Paul's Monterrey Inn. Great steaks, drinks, and impeccable service in one of the most unique atmospheres in the city.

Wasn't ever really my favorite.

I am here in Alb finally. Got to the hotel with a little time to read some reviews of the few restaurants that were suggested through the thread. I checked out reviews for Sadie's, La Hacienda, Frontier, Gracies, El Pinto, Seferino's on Central (not open for dinner) and El Patio. Ended up going to El Patio. It was OK. I got the combination plate: flat red enchiladas with chicken, and a taco. It was ok. I liked the red sauce but it is no "Shed" sauce. Potatoes were good. Now for lunch tomorrow, where to go? I want to pick up some jars of red sauce to bring back to Dallas. Girl at El Patio said to get El Pinto Sauce at the grocery store - she said it was very good. Our Hotel is tight by "Little Anita's." Any comments on it? I was wanting to go to La Hacienda - for old time's sake, but the reviews were pretty negative.

El Pintos sauce is lame, even the hot is more like cold, I would just try some local made salsa in the grocery store, stay away from the more popular restaurant salsas.

No one's mentioned Los Cuates? That's good eating, so is El Pinto...don't forget Sadies for those of you who are bold and have cast iron guts! Frontier is a classic, don't forget the cinammon roll. OMG...I need to come home..Texas food just isn't cutting it. I have red/green chile flowing through my veins...not blood. =)
Oh yea, El Bronco in the valley.....NW Coors if I remember....Great Caldo!!! At least that's what I used to nurse those hangovers with. ...Oh the good ol days!
