Hi crackiswhack. Owning a horse in Albuquerque is not necessarily expensive, at least that's my impression. I had a friend who came here for law school and she had a horse but not much money, found an inexpensive property in the South Valley with a pretty dilapidated (but charming) old house on it. She lived there happily for several years after law school, made friends with other horse owners in the neighborhood and went riding with them. She was from Kentucky and I think just grew up around horses so it was just natural for her to own one, it wasn't a prize horse by a long shot but it was hers. There are worse things to have in your yard.
