Default Nob Hill sounds like my best bet

As far as neighborhoods, I think Nob Hill does sound like the best fit. Its just going to be challenging to search there. Next week I'll be working 8 hours a day in a hotel room and only have early evenings to look at apartments/houses.

I keep looking at the lofts but they're either over what I'm willing to spend or too small.

Casablues - ty for the feedback specifics. I've noted them on the spreadsheet and I'll probably skill all of the Villa, Academy and Broadstone now. Adding the other three now.

Anyone know anything about Camino Real? I just spoke with the leasing manager and the apartments sound nice. How is the location at 3305 Calle Cuervo NW?

The only downside I see to house rental is I don't want to care for a yard and I do want a pool.

And finally, Buckeye you nailed it. Clifton. Mount Adams is more yuppie than hippie. Could also have been northside.

I was tempted to say Northside, but as far as I know, there's not any places that provide decent views of the river in that area

Then you will be like most ABQ homeowners.

Default More food for thought

So perhaps this is a dumb question, but whats the best way to hunt for house or condo rental? Are there options besides craigslist? Should I find some type of agent?

The other side I worry about in a house vs an apartment is more personal. As a single woman moving to ABQ and not knowing anyone, an apartment at least gives me the chance to meet people. I'm going to be a lot more isolated in a house. Obviously I could join clubs or whatever but its just one of the things I consider.

Do rules about maintenance apply the same in a house rental as in an apartment? Right now if my toilet breaks, the complex has to fix it within a specified period of time or I can go to an agency to force them to act or allow me to escrow rent.

For the last 20 years or so I've owned my own home wherever I lived. Its only when I got divorced last year that I went through the apartment hunting ordeal. I'm still pretty new to all this.

I'm sure it'll be snatched up before I get a chance to grab it next week.

Tenant/landlord laws are the same regardless, my landlords (of house rentals) always covered the cost of plumbing issues and the like. Some may expect you to take care of the yard but others may not. Many yards are xeriscaped and require very little care. Ask up front about anything that concerns you with any prospective landlord.

I did not find it easier to meet people in apartments than in residential neighborhoods, but that's just me. If you get a dog I hear that's a great way to meet people. But it sounds to me like you prefer apartment living, at least for now. It might provide the security and stability you'd want in a new city before getting your bearings and learning the neighborhoods.

There are a couple of towers that have always intrigued me.

.... Downtown ...
(1) E side of 14th near Central. I've been in this one and it was nice.

.... Uptown ...
(2) Between Indain Schook and Jeannedale Dr ( S of Uptown )

I like the idea of a concrete and steel tower with large balconies.

If this appeals, check it out. Both have great access to Rapid Ride buses. If I was going
to work out of an apartment these would be cool options for someone who likes such a thing.

I'm just guessing, but I would think that the population would lean toward older
and more quiet tenants. This could be good and could be bad - depending.

The Uptown option also is right on a bike route that takes you to Tramway.
I'm going to go ahead and just call that a good thing.
