I used to live in ABQ, but am now out of state. My father, however, still lives in NM. He has a rather small house that does not have an evaporative cooler, but I would very much like to purchase one for him. Can anyone recommend a brand of cooler and a reputable company to install it? I would appreciate it as it's difficult to research this from out of state. Thanks!

I have used Affordable Service Air Conditioning, Heating, & Plumbing(Albuquerque & Rio Rancho) for converting my swamp to Refrigerated Air Conditioning.

They say: Swamp (Evaporative) Cooling Repair, Service & Installation on their webpage. I would send them an e-mail or call. But it could be expensive if you do not have duct work already in place.

Small window AC units are cheap and work well many times...

Small window swamp units also exist, and if your father lives in a house old enough to not have any air conditioning, these usually end up making the most financial sense. Bedroom or living room tend to make the most sense.

The gift of air conditioning can sometimes come off a bit backhanded; oh, great, now I have this contraption I didn't need and if it costs me $10 a month extra to use it, what's the point? I'll just leave it in the "off" position (Old folks can be stubborn).
