Exclamation What an Idiot!

My former landlord was from the same state you are, he was as bigoted as you are too. I thought so-called, "educated people" were above this.

My lawyer (white) visited Minnesota and advised me that much of it it is a
"white" ghetto - "lily white."

As an American Indian, I am very comfortable around ALL People of Color.

And I am considering a move from El Paso to Albuquerque. Was the message I read supposed to "scare" me off? I think NOT.

Have a great day,

-s

Just to clarify - Luke-who-ever is probably only accepted in MN because (1) people are too nice (MN NICE = Saying things you know others want to hear as well as helping out strangers in need) or (2) must have found some white supremicist group.

I moved to Rochester, MN from So CA 20 months ago and although I can't wait to return to the southwest there are many things I enjoy here.MN is green-beautiful, if you know what I mean, like my native New England. The sky is bluer than ever in CA. The people are nice. I am enjoying getting to know another sub-culture of the US.
Never have I met anyone in MN with your express ignorance. Never even in So CA, which in my former area there is saying a lot. Perhaps just nasty?

MN does like to advertise itself as progressive, etc..... The media and natives literally cover up the "not so great" aspects of the state. How can such a progressive state put its citizens in danger by decreasing taxes (luring corporations) and risk public health, education, etc.?
The first time I read the foul words by the original poster and didn't let myself comment upon its sacrafice of infrastructure - that is why the I35 bridge collapsed. I am glad someone else mentioned it first. I forgot to ignore this thread when looking at updates...
The Head of Dept. of Health here in MN covered up cancer associated with mining. As if miners don't take enough risk ...
In both cases (and there are many more) Gov. Pawlenty announced no wrong doing/responsibility on the part of state officials and then went onto say there will be an investigation (by whom, with what hidden agenda?). He is so busy running for VP in 2008 that you can't believe a word he says.

One democratic legislator calls him on it in her notices to the newspaper here in Rochester (MN not NY) and they - the public bash her for it.

I was glad to get out of CA. So much corruption no one could begin to figure it out. At least Californians admit that their state is a mess. MN refuses to consider it.

Many things are positive about MN but you can't improve on anything until you know there is a problem. I tire of the MN Nice version of everything.

I wish I could make more sense, but I am tired, I was in forums well into the morning and now again. I am a forum addict, it is like travelling. Esp. Enjoy EP description of Oct, Dec in ABQ - that was better than some of my sight-seeing trips! See, I digress. The Abq forum has pulled me in so many ways within 1 hours, I can't make sense... forgive me, readers

The best thing threads like this do is that some responses generated are illuminating for those of us who are concerned w/positive and negatives of a location. It has been informative - I'll quit there

Default s0rry about that last comment

My apologies to people who wasted time reading my prior response. I thought it was just poorly written until I read it.
I moved out of Boston in 1984 and every now and then I see myself acting just like a rough-around-the edges Irish-Bostonian (family from Southie). Sorry, worse than a Californian.

No personal attacks and bickering people! I've only scanned things but I've seen enough. Sorry I'm not around as much to catch some things.

But you can always report a post you think is over the top and most likely another mod will take a look when I'm not around and take the appropriate action.

Let's keep things civil please. Thanks.

Is south Eubank and the Nano Tech park out there third world? And i'm from El Paso (andress high school) so i know all about Juarez so i have to laugh at this....

You said ''if you don't like Hispanics stay away??'' Why.... I'm Anglo and a Southerner and it doesn't bother me at all including living and working in the S E Heights area but i'm probably not WHITE enough for ya either....

Lack of infrustructure?? 2 Billion dollars of freeway construction and another 2 Billion in Capital outlay money's are being spent here. Maybe Minnesota should worry about its own Infrustructure as you just had a bridge COLLAPSE there !!

As far as no running water...... well there in North Florida and Southern Georgia are there towns and places with NO running water so i guess those states are also thirdworld.....

Yeah there is crime here as in all 50 states have crime as you can watch the CBS Evening news and see almost every nite there is some horrific crime in one of the 50 states in this country....

Yeah our salaries are not as high as alot of states but the cost of living is lower here as thats why alot of retirees are moving here as their retirement check/monies goes farther....

No one here ever said this state is perfect or a Utopia or low crime or low poverty ...yada yada yada .......but its not a THIRD world country that some of you love to come on here now and then and make it out that way.

Don't worry as we won't go on the Minnesota forums and Crap on your state as you did ours.....
Well said Harry.. err 6 foot 3. But I am gonna try and give the poster the benefit of the doubt and say he was voicing his frustrations at needing to speak spanish and the lack of some hispanic or mexican peoples not wanting to melt in the American fabric and instead fight and cause us to change to meet their needs instead of doing what so many prior nationalities have done and learned english and worked to be part of America instead of what many see happening now. Hold on I need to untie my tounge. Ok.. I have not read the 5 pages of post yet so I maybe mistaken.

Now lets be fair, he moved to NM and it was not for him.. he felt outta place and he could not see how others live here. Lets not bash him for that.. and be thankful he is back in Minnesota where he is happy. Right? I also find it funny that someone can call this guy a raciest and then turn around and say something equally raciest about him or his state.

trying to see all sides here, so dont bash me too hard.. thanks

Let me speak of Diversity.. it seems some of you think because the population is not white it is diverse. That is not so. Diversity for me is more than 2 races living in an area and are pretty balanced in numbers. If you have 70% Hispanic, 20% caucasian and 10% other thats not a diverse culture, that is in fact a Hispanic culture. So lets stop saying embace its diversity please, and say embrace its culture. I have lived in Seattle Wa, and found that area to be very Diverse, I met people from all over the planet.. Russians, Asians, Hispanics, and many others.. and I loved it. I even made great friends with a man from Africa, he was attending college there.. very smart guy.

I noticed we all seem to see one small point in an article written and fixate on it and loose site of the over all message. This guy did not like NM, ok, so what.. I think each person has to make his or her own judgement. I dont Like El Paso.. yet I am happy to see it getting better. I want to live some place more diverse, and near a large body of water. I had that in Mississippi.. but due to family in El Paso needing my help I am back. And what I first saw as faults here and hated I now see differently. I still dont like El Paso, but its home and I can not denigh the fact that it is a welcoming spot and a feeling of saftey for me. Ok I am getting off track.. sorry. Lets allow this guy to have his say and not go on the offensive just because he made some comments we dont agree with.

Muhnay....thats fine he doesn't like New Mexico but i wish folks would state some facts before attacking our state. Like the lady who came on here a couple of months back and called us all TAX CHEATS (Excuse me?) and lovers of Illegal Aliens.....

Here in ABQ you don't need to speak spanish like we do in El Paso... Muhnay and most of the Hispanics up here are very Pro America as most don't even speak fluent spanish. He said our infrustructure is terrible but failed to mention our 2 Billion in Road construction (GRIP) and also failed to mention his own state's tragedy of the Bridge Collapse. (yes a tragedy)

Said there's no running water...yeah thats true but again in places of the south (i'm a Southerner by family) have extreme poverty with no running water also as you wouldn't think Florida could have that.

Lastly there are places i have lived and visited especially in the south that are awful, poor, poverty, racism by ALL races etc...yet i wouldn't disrespect the good people who live in those States, Cities or Townships and tell them they Suck and yada yada yada....

By the way i have nothing against Luchache and wish him the best....

P.S.... Wave to Ontario Street for me back home in EP and hows the DQ doing on Fairbanks.....lol....later !

Ummmmm..... hate to nit-pick, but:

(from city-data.com detailed profiles)
Albuquerque Demographics*
  • White Non-Hispanic (49.9%)
  • Hispanic (39.9%)
  • Other race (14.8%)
  • American Indian (4.9%)
  • Two or more races (4.3%)
  • Black (3.1%)
  • Vietnamese (0.6%)
Seattle Demographics*
  • White Non-Hispanic (67.9%)
  • Black (8.4%)
  • Hispanic (5.3%)
  • Two or more races (4.5%)
  • Chinese (3.4%)
  • Filipino (2.8%)
  • Other race (2.4%)
  • Vietnamese (2.1%)
  • American Indian (2.1%)
  • Other Asian (1.8%)
  • Japanese (1.6%)
  • Korean (0.9%)
  • Asian Indian (0.5%)
*Total can be greater than 100% because Hispanics could be counted in other races

Seems to me that ABQ better fits your definition, as Seattle is has a population largely made up of White Non-Hispanics. ABQ is one of the few places in the US where no racial demographic (officially) comprises a majority of the local population.

Chap

Note I said More than 2 races living in the same area and pretty balanced in numbers. By your example, ALBQ. Has 2 races that are close to the same number. then it list a few more races below. But the Seattle stats have many more races with one over whelming one.. this is a better example of diversity as there is a larger selection. Even with the large white non hispanic population. Not to smear citydata, but I find the stats on here dont seem to match up most of the time with my experiances in an area.. either they are out of date or the process in collecting them is flawed. Im not sure what it is. For instance does the Seattle stats take into effect the many burbs and small cities all around it? or just the small area that is Seattle proper? But I get your point.. I was only saying that the term is often used when an area is not very diverse, and the use of culture would be better used in its place.

Onto harry.. yeah I hear ya.. but even if he had stated facts, there would of been someone on here to refute them. his facts may not be your facts. He felt he needed to warn people.. but I get what your saying. and I agree with you. There were racial undertones to his post, and a good bit of smearing of ALBQ. And I thinka few of you proved him wrong without resulting to his level and insulting him in return.. and for that I am very proud of the few that did like you Harry. And DQ is fine... over priced but fine. there is a couple new places in the strip mall behind it now to hang out at. You'll have to come down and check them out.

When you say "DQ" do you mean Dairy Queen? As a kid, I could
eat a banana split or a LARGE malted milk shake *EVERY* friggin
day and never gain a pound. ....
Now, I have to ration my cookies
but I still have a sweet tooth!!
