McGraths Restaurant, Abq
This is probably a long shot, but has anyone eaten at McGrath's Restaurant at 330 Tijeras Ave NW, Abq? (few blocks west of Broadway Blvd., cross street 3rd St NW - I think it's in a hotel)
McGrath is my maiden name so I just have to ask! It's not far from our hotel (Embassy Suites just off 25 at Lomas Blvd), but I don't want to drag our client to a restaurant that might be awful!!
If not McGraths, can anyone recommend a nice upscale, great food (good variety on menu) restaurant in the area of 25/40. We will be taxiing from the hotel (can you believe the car rental places wanted close to $500 a week due to Balloon Fiesta week!).
The following week we will be traveling around looking at neighborhoods. We can't wait to finally visit all these places we've heard so much about!

McGraths is barely average. The Hotel is quite nice, and deserves a much better restaurant. My recommendation would be to visit the restaurants in Nob Hill (Central East of I-25). From your hotel head South on the I-25 Frontage road to Central, then head East towards the mountains. When you hit Girard just East of the University you'll be in Nob Hill. Try Zinc, Yannis, Scalo, or Gruet Steakhouse. There is pleanty to see and do in this area and should remind you somewhat of Melrose in LA. Hope that helps. Zinc also has a nice wine bar downstairs with live jazz and a full bar, exellent place to unwind.

I second Gruet Steakhouse. Also, Also off of 1-40 and Louisiana there are is ABQ Uptown. IN it there is an Elephant Bar, Bravo!, Marcello's Steakhouse, etc.

Both nice, but Nob Hill is more unique where as ABQ Uptown looks like Anyplace, USA with all the chains. Although Marcello's is local. Either one is a good choice though.

I'll second finmqa1's suggestions.
Albuquerque is being swamped with chain restaurants that can be experienced anywhere for thousands of miles. In particular, Gruet and Zinc are wonderful upscale restaurants with excellent wine selections. Gruet has their own winery and vinyards in-state.

Go to Zinc
Go to Zinc. Ask if Dave is working, and listen to his recommendations about the food AND the wine (he generally doesn't recommend the fish, theres a reason). Tip him well, he needs it.
You'll definately spend some money, but you won't be sorry.

Thanks for all the tips
Thanks for all the recommendations. Just got back from a couple of weeks in ABQ and loved it. Now making plans to sell up in CA and move out next spring-summer!
A few nice restaurants were found alright: Scalia's in Nob Hill (though I hated their jalapena-marinated shrimp - how on earth is that Italian?! I had to send it back as it was like eating fire...don't you hate when the menu isn't specific?!!)
Zinc was fabulous - as advertised! Would go back in a second.
Found an Irish pub, the Two Fools Tavern, along Central also. Lunch grub was suitably pubby and fairly authentic (I'm Irish). We were sorry we missed the Sunday breakfast...
Seasons in Old Town was lovely - wonderful seafood chowder and the steak was cooked to perfection!

I am glad that you enjoyed it here. Good Luck with the move, now is a better time then ever to buy a house. Did you get to try any local New Mexican food?
