I second GregW's advice on sunblock. But your skin does not adapt to ultraviolet rays anymore than a scab adapts you to another stab wound :-)

As far as soccer, in addition to what has been mentioned, there are also pick-up games on Johnson Field at the University on Central Avenue, nearly nightly. I assume some of those players are also local league payers and at least can steer you towards some opportunities.

Frankly, it seems that Albuquerque is more of a Rugby town than soccer at least in the adult age bracket. Youth soccer is HUGE.

Looks like I have been put up in Las Mananitas Apartments, 6200 Montano Plaza Drive NW. Looks to be about 3-4 milesfurther away from where i originally thought I was going to be but ah well! L

How would the commute be from here to Intel via cyclng?

Are there any options for public transport to Intel on this route?

There is a main road that goes directly from the apartments to Intel. It's called Coors Blvd. It has both a bike path and major bus service. Either mode of transportation from there is fine.

As an avid bike commuter I have to say I would not at all want to bike on Coors Blvd. It is a major highway/raceway with too much traffic for my liking. The opposite of a peaceful commute. My idea of a nightmare. Too bad that this commute to Intel will probably color your entire perception of Albuquerque.

According to the ABQ bike map, there is no designated bike lane that would connect all the way to Intel. I would stick with the bus, or drive a car.

I occationally ride my bike to the office, but there is no way I'd ride Coors!

That's just way to dangerous.

You guys are sissies. Not any worse than downtown drivers blowing through stop signs. Or even the cyclist that thing bike Blvd is their personal autobahn.

Cheers for the feedback lads!

Relying on public transport doesnt seem too appealing, looks a little messy having to take the 155 to Ellsion and the 251 (can someone confirm if thats right) and may not be an option if on shift!

Any body see an alternative cycle route from these apartments to Intel avoiding the worst of Coors?

I am going to investigate alterantive apartments around the area also. Are the Riverwalk apartments the best of the bunch? Any others I am obviously missing?

You could ride up La Orilla to Golf Course Rd all the way down to West Side Road...right into the Intel plant. Golf Course is a busy street but not nearly as busy as Coors.

Riverwalk are nice apartments. Right on the edge between a major shopping district going into a Rural area. From there you could ride Loma Larga Road to Medowlark Ln to Sarah Road to Intel.
