An evening of horses, rabbits, cattle, fine art, green chile corn dogs, deep fried Oreos, smoked turkey legs & kettle corn.

I've been twice this week and I had a really good time. I like the dancing, singing, & druming at the Indian Village. I had my first Indian Taco with shredded Buffalo meat, that was delish. Also had fried twinkies (don't do it, not so good) and fired Reses peanut butter cups (those were good). They had a break dancing contest on Saturday that was mildly entertaining. One of the highlights is the people watching, all kinds...all kinds!

I haven't been yet this year, but my barber was telling me yesterday that this year it's the most scaled-back and least well-attended fair he's ever been to. No good rides in the Midway anymore. Expensive food. He guesses ride operators just decided not to come to NM this year because of the shorter timeframe. He even thought the exhibitions this year were lamer than in years past.

Are we outgrowing the "fair experience" or is it the impact of the economy that's hurting the state fair?

I do still want to go this weekend...thanks for the reminder about the Indian Tacos.

You know I was planning on going to the State Fair and then I passed by it once to go to the Salsa Fiesta, and became disinterested. It's not even that far from my house and I can't gain enough interest to go. I'd rather do a lot of other things. When I lived in WI, I never bothered with the state fair, and only local fairs when I was a kid.

EDIT: I do like the OP's pic.

We are planning on going to the state fair, trying to gather up who wants to go etc, and find the time.

Cool picture, by the way.

But I'm not going. The only days I can go are Saturday and Sunday, and from what I have heard it is very crowded on those days.

We've been going on and off for about 12 years (Maybe six times), I think always on the weekends, a few few times twice, and I never really considered it "very crowded"
