Last I saw, 18-35 year olds accounted for ~22% of the population for the Metro area. So, around 198k people.

I don't recall anyone ever saying that... Albuquerque and the whole state of New Mexico is not for everyone. Ideally, I think every American might benefit from at least visiting every state in this great country in their lifetime. But even that would not let them see everything...

Good to see this thread is still going. FYI im still planning on a multi day visit to scope apartments next month. My budgest is 800 or less. The 'singles' scene is not really a big consideration for me as much as just having a local place to go to have a beer and b/s with folks. The biggest reason for my move as stated before is for photography purposes and proximity to the four corners area.

There are several threads on this subject that might be helpful. Check out my post #8 in the Home from visit thread. I list a couple of other threads in my post that provide additional info on the 55+ communities in the area.

I just visited ABQ ahead of moving there in June and found that staying in airbnb.com properties gave me a great sense of different neighborhoods. That would be my recommendation for when you visit again, or first arrive. You meet locals, have a bit more privacy/comfort than a hotel and are immersed in an actual residential neighborhood, vs an area that is a cluster of hotels. With prices in ABQ from $25 a night ( room and private bath in someone's home) to about $40-$80 a night for a private casita, it's often a better deal than a hotel as well.

I tried out North Valley, Nob Hill and South Valley. All illuminating stays!

The second time I stayed at the Hotel Blue (which was when I actually moved to Albuquerque and was waiting for the movers to arrive with my stuff), I arrived late at night and the young woman on duty at the desk seemed really reluctant to unlock the door for me. Can't really blame her. I hope she wasn't there alone, without other staff, at that hour. It's a little bit sketchy, but not so bad. Actually, I ended up initially moving just a few blocks down from the Hotel Blue.

Oops. Didn't see the original post was three years old.
