We just built a home in LL and will be moving from the LA area, my girls and I are mall rats and need our fix when we are there, the commute from LL to ABQ is nothing compared to the commute from Torrance to the heart of LA..and the scenic views are wonderful. We cant wait to make the move permenant.

There is a new shopping area in ABQ called 'The Q' that is reminiscent of the outdoor shopping malls in SoCal. It is near the intersection of Louisiana and Indian School.
Also, check out Cottonwood Mall on at the intersection of Coors NW and Eagle Ranch Rd. Having lived many years in San Diego, I prefer this mall to Coronado Center.
The third mall is Coronado Center at the intersection of Louisiana and Menaul; it is just to the NW of The Q.
Enjoy your new home in Los Lunas!

A couple of minor corrections: The shopping complex located at Louisiana & Indian School is actually called "ABQ Uptown", not 'The Q'.
Coors Blvd and Eagle Ranch actually intersect each other a couple miles south of Cottonwood Mall. A more accurate intersection would be Coors and Coors Bypass.

I completely agree with the above posters--expect I like Coronado better than Cottonwood. (Manzano Wolf, gave you your first rep points, and Chap enjoy rep points!). Coronado is the largest mall in the city. It is pretty much across the street from ABQ Uptown. Cottonwood isn't bad, and its my primary mall (closer). If you are a big Dillard's Fan, the Dillard's at Winrock are fantastic. Winrock is pretty much completely closed except two huge Dillard's (that aren't connected to the actual building). Winrock is right next to ABQ Uptown, and across the street from Coronado Center.

Yeah, I live in Ventana Ranch and take Eagle Ranch Rd to the mall and paying attention to street names is not one of my strong points . . . LOL
Thanks for the corrections, but it is The Q to me . . .

Los Lunas is a small town with very congested traffic most of the day. It has a lot of new housing developments right of I-25. I live in the Los Chavez area, which is on Highway 314, between Los Lunas and Belen on the west side of the river. Yes we have our problems with drugs, gangs, vandalism, but I like to live in this rual area. It is not a planned community, and yes there is the problem with trash; and the strong windstorm in the spring blow it around. But I generally have to say that the people are very nice and like to talk, yes you find the grouchy-mean ones too. I think everybody needs to check out the area of a new neighborhood first, drive around, check it out in the evening, and know who your neighbors are, even if you don't visit a lot, but know who they are. Hope this is of any help

Does anyone have any information/insight into what NM department of transportation has planned for relief of what sounds like some congestion in and around Los Lunas? It seems that I recall reading that something had been proposed but it does not sound like, from what I can gather here, that that has been made official. I'm interested from the employment aspect as I am looking to move to that area, and my SO works in the construction industry. Just curious, any info to share would be helpful.
Thanks!

Enjoy living in NM and yes, the malls. You can even go to Traders Joes now. They have been there for about 2 or so years. Rumors and it is just rumor, they may open a store in LL.
Sunny, the biggest problem facing the east/west route in LL is getting people to realize it is needed and deciding where to build a new route. No one wants to have their land developed, but everyone agrees something has to be done.

Los Lunas proper isn't bad, the commuter traffic is congested, but nothing compared to SoCal standards.
