red light cameras hot topic. citizens hate em. bout 500 bucks a pop after all traffic schools costs so forth. bad guys simply dont payem. but its a money maker for the city bek low admin costs. and citizens do pay. its a strong pesticide it kills the weed, but it also kills everything else growing in the back yard. local governments are hurting for money.fines are a sneaky form of taxation.
thanks for listening

In certain regions of Mexico the traffic lights are completely meaningless. To avoid accidents, motorists honk their horn as they approach an intersection.

In France, they are replacing just about every intersection with a traffic circle.

In parts of Germany, they are doing away with speed limit, stop, and all traffic signs altogether. Pedestrian/automobile accidents have gone down significantly as a result.

I don't remember where, but some place experimented with completely removing lane stripes; drivers had to pay more attention and as a result there were fewer accidents.

I think I'd like to see what some of these would be like for a day in Albuquerque.

This statement is incorrect.

Quote: "All automated traffic enforcement locations in the City of Albuquerque capture not only red light violations but speeding violations as well."

You obviously haven't been up to ABQ in a while...

Chap

Intersection Cameras.. El Paso has recently put these up all over. I know a guy who got a ticket at Trans mountain and rushing when he ran a red light. He hired a lawyer and they beat the ticket. First off, he could claim he was not driving.. as this takes a picture of your back plate and not from the front that captures the driver and front plate. Second he could argue that had he attempted to stop even at the speed limit he would of cause an accident, so the safest choice for him at the time was to go though the light as it turned red as he was mid way across and the camera went off. But they ended up arguing that the lights are not lawful, because there is no proof that the owner of the car was driving, and that a camera can not capture all the evidence needed to prosicute a person for breaking the law. I hear that our system may be removed after that case as well.. as it was found they were correct. If they don't remove our system expect measures that will change them to get a wider view, or ones that record a small video, or cameras that are monitored by a person.

I don't care either way.. they are a tad big brotherish, but at the same time they have helped the El Paso area be safer. I can only wait and see if we become as bad as England, and have cameras everywhere and our freedom to bare arms taken from us too.

How long have they been in El Paso ?? And at how many intersections in El Paso. We'll they've been up here 2 1/2 years and at 20 intersections and the stats show that while the T-Bone accidents have gone down but the Rear End accidents have gone up. You stated ''We need all the help we can get'' from what?? a Red Light Camera?? Looks like alot of states need alot of help but if you want these in El Paso then good luck to you ! Again get rid of these Damn things !!!
