I doubt it will happen now. The mayor got beat up pretty bad the other night in the election. All four of his hand picked people he had running for council seats got shut out. He will have a hard time passing anything now with the current council. Maybe the next mayor can get something done???

There are many people who believe that a mayor that can't get anything done is just the way things should be.
When the executive and legislative branches are at loggerheads, budgets tend to be more in line with coffers. |

Also his Red Lite cameras are unpopular with a majority of voters as thats why he won't allow it to be voted on. They have an extra 8 million and thats not including 40% of those ticketed not paid as thats alot on money not going to the local businesses and instead leaving the city. |

Yeah, it is not looking good for an arena for Albuquerque. That sucks!
Oh well, at LEAST there is the Santa Ana Center in Rio Rancho. I know, I know, it is not big enough for the metro area or for big acts like McCartney or the Stones, but hell, it is SOMETHING. Albuquerque is like the Burmuda Triangle, the laws of regular physics just do NOT work here! And don't hold your breath on the 30 story tower, some local neighborhood group or the city council will kill that. You can bet on that. I just work here and then travel to other places to get modern amenities!! |

Yeah i've asked him about Six Flags coming to ABQ by E-mail and he's clueless and mentiones ''whats wrong with cliffs''......We need a go getter with bold vision for these glamerous things i.e. arena and amusement park. Even oklahoma city's six flags (frontier city) announced they are expanding by 40 acres........

I don't have a link or any official confirmation. What I do have is years of experience living in Albuquerque and being through countless announcements of an arena being built here. This was announced during Chavez's first term as mayor. Back then the State Fair got in the mix and a debate grew about whether to build at the Fair or downtown. Well, guess what? Neither happened.
This time is was announced about three years ago that there would be a 10,000 seat arena downtown, that it was a done deal. Yes, it would have been too small, but at least we would have SOMETHING, which is more than we have now. So, Rio Rancho beat Albuquerque in building an area, and Mayor Chavez pulled the plug on the arena. THEN, we were told the whole process would start anew, with consideration for a bigger arena, since all the experts said Albuquerque needs something closer to AT LEAST 12,000, and numbers like 15,000 to 19,000 were thrown around. That was about nine months ago. Now, nothing. Just a backwards city council that is anti-development fighting a mayor who is now making a senate run, so, you tell me. Do you NEED anymore confirmation or a link? I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I am just frustrated by this nonsense. Tucson is building a 12,000 seat arena. Tulsa an 18,000 seat arena. It's official. EVERY city of comparable size has a new arena in the works, except Albuquerque. Does anyone have a link or anything to prove otherwise? In Albuquerque, the Pit will get a $25 million facelift, which means a restaurant, better bathrooms, and a new entrance. It also means losing 800 seats of capacity, for an arena made up primarily of benches and a one trick pony facility most acts can't play in. Whooopeee. |
