Hello

I am from Dallas, Texas. I am planning a trip to Albuquerque for skiing. Even in Santa Fe Area

Initially I thought of going to Taos, Angel Fire area but I believe roads are very snow and icy and I am not confident of driving.

Albuquerque and Santa Fe have ski areas but where can I find snow mobile tours and tubing rentals???

Please suggest anything near by Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

Thank you

Went to Red River, NM this time last year. It's not exactly close to Abq, but it's doable. Incredibly boring tourist trap little town, but a $100 4 hour guided tour via rented snowmobile was the absolute highlight of it. I now aspire to own a snowmobile if I remain in a cold enough place long term.

Check the snow reports and schedules before coming. Sandia Peak opened early this season after a big storm, but the base has been dwindling with no new snow (until last night, got 6"). Only the beginner area is now open until they get more snow. Open Wed.-Sun.

Santa Fe is doing much better with 92% of the mountain currently open, and open every day of the week.

I have to pass Taos to get to Red River and that is what I am worried about. I mean driving up north till there. There is snowmobiling and tubing in taos area but I am not confident to drive up there. So looking around ABQ and Santa Fe Area.

So, are there no options for snowmobiling or tubing in ABQ and Santa Fe area?

From ABQ there are some locations off the Sandia Crest Highway where people go tubing (with their own equipment and at their own risk), but there is no snowmobiling in the immediate ABQ area. Don't think there is in Santa Fe either.

Here's an option for Taos:

I googled but could not find a place in Albuquerque that rents snow tubing equipment. There were suggestions on other forums to just go to Walmart and buy an inexpensive snow disk, innertube, or "plastic toboggan." Someone suggested calling the REI snow shop in Albuquerque to see if they had any recommendations for rentals. Also read that Professional Tire and Service Center in Santa Fe sells innertubes in different sizes for about $10 (could have been an old website) and would fill them with air. And Cottan (sp?) Ski Shop is supposed to have rentals (but may just sell equipment) at Hyde Park in Santa Fe. I would give these places a call ahead of time to verify. Some of the ski areas rent this equipment but varies. Good luck.

Update: record warm temperatures and lack of snow have forced Sandia Peak Ski Area to close for the season. Ski Santa Fe is still open.
