New to the City Forums. What a great resource! I will start by saying that I love ABQ. Been here almost three years, and it is just a great place. However, I work for a company that is highly dependent upon capital expenditures by private industrial firms. Our company, therefore, is a good indicator of private spending in the state. Of late, our clients have had rapidly slowing capex activity. Since moving here, I have always had the sense that the NM economy slides along a razor's edge. The state has typically had trouble attracting new industry, and its 7% gross receipts tax doesn't help. So, while this is a great place to live for quality of life, how do you think things are looking for jobs and new growth? Maybe this is a great place for government workers and contractors, but a little more precarious for regular commercial?
Welcome to the city data forums, MarkBerela. Well, ta just talk about one aspect of our economy, just bringing up the subject of Tesla Motors building their huge battery factory here pert-near brings laughs from the posters here. Why? Distance to California? What's the problem? Rail will connect the batteries to the Tesla production facility they need ta go to.
It's a possibility. It seems to me the latest rumour is that Nevada has the latest edge in the running for that factory, but Tesla has yet to decide. New Mexico could really score by getting those 6,500 jobs.

It seems NM and Albuquerque particularly has always been the step child, almost there but just climb over the hill. We loved a lot about living there for 7 years, still it just wouldn't attract the industry it hoped for. I don't know why. The city and state has so much to offer. But as long as I can remember it has been that way. We were retired, so didn't depend on jobs.
