I see everybody has chimed in accurately on most points. The two least hit on just happen to be in my wheelhouse.
4. Anderson's school of business is regarded positively on a national basis. While it is not a top 10 business school, it does hit at about 21 nationally and I read in American Academics where it was ranked first in terms of bang for the buck. Simply put, the tuition is less expensive than some schools out of the top 50.
5. My wife is an Accountant in ABQ. The argest Accounting job markets here, while not booming, are sustaining at this time in these sectors:
Federal Government Contractor (ABQ is noted for a plethora of these, in several sizes)
Real Estate
Tax and Revenue
Corporate
Hope this is helpful.

My husband and I desperately need to get out of Bakersfield, CA due to health issues with the really bad air quality. Since his teaching contract is up at the end of June we've decided that this would be a good time to "get out of Dodge" while we still have the lung capacity to do so.

All the stats I've been reading and the posts, make Albuquerque our first choice at this time. I'm curious, though, as I haven't seen this mentioned before, is Alb. a dog-friendly town? I mean are there places to walk to and enjoy a meal outside with the canine friend and dog parks (off-leash areas) to let her play with others?

Also, we would be renting. Any suggestions as to parts of town? I've checked out some of the listings advertised on this site and several places are in the area of Riverwalk? and a Coors Blvd/Dr? something like that.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

camsgirl - we don't own a dog at this time, but there seem to be a lot of them around town, so I would say we're dog friendly. I see a lot of them on the hiking trails, leashed. Plenty of them in our neighborhood too.

We live in the NE Heights, but last weekend we went for a short hike in the Petroglyphs on the west side. On the way back, somewhere near Coors or Taylor Ranch, we saw a fenced dog run, the 1st we've seen to date in ABQ. You guys may want to check that area out. Personally I think Taylor Ranch is a nice area.

You can eat with your dog on the patio at Kelly's. They will even bring your dog a bowl of water and some crunchy dog-bones.

If you plan to rent in ABQ and not at an apartment complex, then be sure to provide references for your dog(s). ABQ is pet friendly but many private landlords are not.

there is a dog park in the Taylor Ranch area,it is near Unser and Montano.I see lots of dogs being walked all over town,I would say its very pet friendly.
The Riverwalk you speak of is it an apartment, there are some apartments near Coors that go by that name, they are in a good area, close to everything you need and priced well.

It's been said before.....if there's any way you can swing a hotel for a few days when you get here, to look around, do it. It's tough trying to lease from afar, especially if you don't know someone here who can check out neighborhoods and drive by the rental for you. I looked at great places in "bad" parts of town, horrid places in "great" parts of town, and finally ended up deciding I liked areas x, y and z, and simply drove around there looking for "rent" signs. Many of the nicer rentals never make it to the MLS, the newspaper or craigslist. The Studio 6 at Osuna/I-25 is pretty decent, takes pets, and quite affordable for a week or two stay. JMHO.
