Just annouced on 7 news. Mayor Hugo Chavez decided to suspended his speed to the green scamera program. I guess he did not want to share the loot with the state.

Ha! Hugo Chavez. Ha Ha Ha! Well I personally think it would be B.S. for only Albuquerque to have cameras, and yet the whole state gets the money!!!! So even though I hate Marty, I agree with him on this.

Marty said it was never about the money. That was a lie. A few weeks back he lied to everyone and said the scamera system could not be changed because he locked the city into an illegal contract with redflex. Now he suspends the program? The lies never stop with Marty. I really hope the governor signs this bill and ends the scamera program. |

I think I'm the only one on here who doesn't mind the cameras. I don't think the state is entitled to any of the money as the city of ABQ paid for the infrastructure.

As leftist as I can sometimes be, I find the idea of "red light camera's" abhorrent. In my mre paranoid moments (like now) I see them as another step to installing an RFID chip in everybody's butt.

The problem is we can stop the government from installing cameras, but the private sector goes ahead and puts them more and more places. Then when the government is interested, it grabs the tapes. Do you ever watch Law and Order?
It is nice that the police have help in solving crimes, but more and more we are watched and recorded. |

I don't see it so much as a left vs. right issue, but I do agree with abhorrent. Actually, I would just say it sucks. I used to know someone back east who thought the red light cameras were great, mostly because he wanted to become one of the contractors who get rich off others' red light infractions. Pretty crappy. I lived in the DC metro for years and it's getting scary how many daggone cameras there are all over the place, and not just intersections. One of the things I like about NM is we don't yet live in a surveillance society.
