Pearson Education or Victoria's Secret call center.

Pearson: Homepage

I loved working at Pearson, although the work was only seasonal.

Coming from a Californian, the "Southwest" is AZ and NM, period.
The Mountain West is -- Utah/CO/WY/Nev/ID/MT
Oklahoma is in the Midwest. Texas is most definitely in the SOUTH.
California is the only state in it's own "World." We share a similarity with Nevada and Hawaii, less so with the PacNorWest states (OR/WA).

I am hopeful this Forbes article is accurate. I can see Chicago/NYC/Bos being favorable job markets--especially for college grads. But c'mon...Chicago is one of the worst places to live...it's great to visit in Summer. That's about it.

Default no honey, no

No, this was discussed earlier in the thread. Texas is not and never has been part of the south. Texas used to be part of MEXICO for God's sakes. It is definitely a southwestern state. Ever heard of the airlines SOUTHWEST, which is headquartered in Dallas???

Austin is #1 in SW for Forbes article, get over it. There are very few Austinites who in any way shape form or fashion would identify with the south. Something tells me you have never visited either Texas or Austin. And I do beg to differ, California is not the only state in its "own world". The running joke is that Texas should become its own country. We were before you know. 6 flags have flown over Texas. Should Texas become its own country has even been discussed on this board:

Sorry, but this^^^is irrelevant. California was also part of Mexico. What does an airline name have to do with anything? Apple Computer was founded in San Francisco. What does the Bay Area have to do with Apple production? IBM was founded in Armonk, NY, not exactly an "International" locale, eh? I guess Herb Kelleher thought Prairie Air or Big Steer Air were lame corp names?http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/confused005.gif (broken link)

My answer pertains to contemporary general attitudes. If we polled America, we would find out that Texas, indeed, is now part of the "South" regardless of what Texans think. The Southwest is only AZ and NM. I only said California could be considered it's own "world" because of the distinct climate/geographical differences found within the state. Texas is big, flat, hot and boring...no matter where you go within it.

Actually central Texas is the focus of a fabulous vortex which accounts for the tremendous independence and creativity of the people who live there:

keep austin weird

And yes, Southwest is a regionally based airlines. This is common knowledge. That you don't know this or agree with it does not matter.

I feel bad for Texans because they feel so proud of Austin and blindly assume that everyone will be impressed with Austin and that somehow Austin will "erase" the other blemishes that pass for cities there. There are many places that are just as "funky" as Austin and better.

There was nothing for me to agree with. You missed my point about Southwest Airlines. I commented, basically, that corporate names mean nothing, basically. Company founders choose marketable names. Southwest's business plan (cheap, no frills air service) could've "worked" with any name. Southwest doesn't seem like a regional airline anymore.

Hmm... Southwest Airlines serves the entire nation. Baltimore, Philadelphia, Orlando, Seattle, Portland, etc. That doesn't seem regional to me... So this isn't common knowledge.

Austin isn't Southwest in anyway. Its progressive, but I don't see how this makes your point that Texas would or would not be considered part of the south.

Personally I think Texas is just Texas. It isn't southwest, it isn't midwest, it isn't quite the south, it is just same ole Texas. You either LOVE IT or HATE IT!

Anyway, I wish everyone a wonderful day!!!
