cabelasALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque has reeled in a really big retail fish.
"Cabela’s, one of the most recognizable names in outdoor recreation merchandise, has announced it will open its first New Mexico store, likely in 2017. It plans to put a 70,000-square-foot location at Legacy at Journal Center, a new mixed-use project on 20 acres at the southwest corner of Interstate 25 and Paseo del Norte.
I'm no huge fan of Cabella's (essentially the walmart of outdoors items), but I do rarely order weapon/magazine parts from them as they're usually the cheapest. Now that they're local, the no-tax is no longer applicable, and I doubt I'll purchase from them. Though a lot of people love their retail store, so good on em! Probably a wise choice to plant a store here with the large hunter/all-american camper base this area could cater to.
Good. Every trip out it seems I have to buy the grand daughter new hiking boots in a larger size and in May I saw that REI seems to be phasing out kids boots.

I didn't know they were constructing a center here. Cool. Wonder who else we'll get?

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Cabela’s is now open.
The national outdoor outfitter opened its doors this morning to a crowd of thousands, many of whom had been waiting outside since yesterday.
Cabela’s opening ceremony included a flag raising and a concert from Nashville country star Lucas Hoge before a Cabela’s archery expert shot a clay pigeon, cutting the ribbon.
Shortly after, the store was flooded with excited customers, the first hundred of whom received Cabela’s gift cards.
