I'm near Menaul & Tramway and my trusty little improvised snow shovel (wisk broom and dust pan) worked fine for the snowfall that we received. But then, I didn't arrive here until the first week of January, so maybe that big snowfall was before I got here....

A nice little plus to the wind....the dog & I were out walking this evening and it was so nice to stop on the street corner and listen to the wind in the trees, and the varied tones of multiple wind chimes up and down the street. One of my favorite sounds is the wind blowing through pine trees.

The freeze dates have a similarity to the high temperatures here. It's just a spike. If you have a delicate plant out in the raw air, it's important. For the faucet hanging off my wall, it would take temperatures well below freezing for an extended period to matter.

I hear you, EnjoyEP! I've noticed you've balked at any mention of shorts/t-shirts as well, so I'll try to avoid any complaints about the lack of decent shorts in the national chain stores causing me to chafe in these heavy jeans as I enjoy the beautiful floral trees blooming in pink and white. You know, that kind of stuff

This is pretty close to being off topic, but I ordered some shorts from LLBean, and they are pretty decent quality.

I had a real shortage of shorts. It was quite the tragedy. I hate wearing pants when I could be wearing shorts.

EnjoyEP kind of sounded like he was complaining about winter in general:

> ABQ winter is like a slice of heaven compared to northern country!!

Maybe you need to get a favorite season poll going.

My favorite season is Autumn or Fall.

My second favorite season is Winter.

Summer after then Spring.

When I lived in the Midwest it was (1)Fall - Spring - Winter - (4)Summer.
I did not like the heat and humidity.

Holy cow. Did anyone see the snowfall on the Sandias this afternoon/early evening? I think it's the most I've seen this winter, and pretty low too. Nothing at my house however except some rain. I swear, I think the hedge in front of my patio wall grew 2 feet after the rain today.

Really? I'm afraid that I haven't even looked at the Sandias today! Isn't that awful? We've been in the house all day working on taxes & such. I wonder if there is still snow up there?

Yea! first rain. I saw the snow when I got the paper this morning and couldn't wait for my daughter to wake up (snow is a big deal for little ones here, who regard it as slightly magical.). Got plenty of water in the rain barrels for the garden too. I'm having an audit by the water authority done. They come out and verify your current system, making you eligible for rebates to change to more efficient systems. The lady on the phone also said the guy can develop a xeriscape plan while he's here.

It started snowing after 5 pm or so at our place just E of Tramway and 6,080 feet. There was some accumulated 'dust' on top of some planters and the wall.

It smelled like winter again because someone fired up their fireplace.

The mtns look beautiful today. We had some neighbors fire up their fireplace, too. It smelled great.
