Default Maybe moving to ABQ for health reasons - questions

Hi

I have been reading posts on City-data for a while, but just registered tonight, so first, thank you very much to the forum's creators and moderators and to all of those who give time, effort, and knowledge to others so willingly.

Because of some temporary health issues (chemical poisoning), I may choose to move from S. Colo. to ABQ to see some doc's. I am hoping that others can give ideas on some questions that I have.

Where should I be looking for places to rent for 6mos. or so?
I hope for peaceful, quiet and with access to nature (hiking trails?). I am young and single with few possessions so small places are ok, but I really would like to avoid med/large apartment complexes.

I also would like to walk or ride my bicycle everywhere I need to go - is this possible/realistic?

Where should I live to be near health food stores? Are there parts of the city where pollution is lowest? Does anyone know of stores that sell organic bedding and/or clothing?

Finally, where might I look to find laid-back young single people to get to know in and aroung ABQ -- I am not really into clubbing/partying, but would like to make some friends in time. Thank you all very much in advance!

Serene....since i live here in ABQ i would say that the ''Nob Hill'' area is what what your looking for. This is just east of UNM. Holistic/organic stores, cafes, geared for walking and small apts/duplexes/triplexes etc...

Hi harry o

Thanks for the info! Did some searching on Nob Hill area, found a couple places to rent and I really like the idea of smaller rentals and geared for walking. Have had to put a hold on my planning with the holidays and Abq SNOW, but just wanted to say thanks!

Your welcome Serene....there's also cafes and new lofts being built in Nob Hill. For your chemical poisoning you might want to research Alpha Lipoic Acid as its a universal antioxidant that works in the fat (membranes) and water (cytoplasm) of the cells and also is a chelator of toxic heavy metal poisoning...Be Well...

Yes, Harry o is right; Nob Hill area is a nice area. It's mainly students & ex-hippies, very laid back. There's no hiking trails, being it's near the university. The shops around there are really great & unusual. Lots of organic/hemp stores. Also, if $ not really an issue, you could check out Corrales. It's NW, between ABQ & Rio Rancho. It's quiet, small town feel, safer than In-town ABQ, has lots of walking trails (it sits next to the Bosque & the Rio Grande river). There's a Sunflower Whole Foods market that's next to some nice apartments on the edge of town. It's mostly beautiful ranches w/ horses within tall trees. It's green & not deserty. Buying a home is expensive, but you might check out rentals. Main street is covered with neat little 'mom & pop' shops, outdoor cafes, & antique shops. It doesnt feel like you're so close to ABQ, but you are. The people are nice & friendly. Hope this helps!

Also, in regard to you wanting to ride your bike everywhere, that is possible in ABQ. There are bike trails/lanes everywhere. My husband bikes to work everyday. He has co-workers that bike to work & live clear across town! Also, if you're in the ABQ area, a really neat store to check out that may have your organic bedding is Cost Plus World Market on Menaul St. # is (505) 881-9300.
