I think the bigger question is why worry about him? These questions about safety are all relative. Where is he coming from? Has he been to a city before? Or sheltered somewhere in a rural area? By the time I was 20 I'd lived in South America, Mexico, traveled in Europe, the Caribbean, around the U.S., knew my way around New York City by myself. My parents never had to worry about me and I never worried about going anywhere.
