Default worried...

Hey guys! I have been up and down this forum for a few weeks now...u guys, from what I have seen, have all been so helpful answering questions =]
I apologize ahead of time for questions u may have already answered that I may ask again...

My mother and I are thinking of moving out that way from california. Things are getting really bad here and we need a fresh start. We have been researching albq A LOT but I know there's a lot u won't learn until u get there...
I was wondering how the job market is going in albq? Especially for call centers? Also is the foreclosure rate high there? Right now we're the highest in the nation almost...
Anything else u can think of that we shld know is welcomed =]

We are taking a trip out there in april btw to check things out...is there anything that shld top our list to see?

Thx in advanced!! U guys rock

Hmm, Verizon just opened (or is in the process of opening) up a massive call center. I am pretty sure that it would be very easy to find a job that suits your needs.

Things to see:
Old Town
ABQ Uptown/ Malls
Sandia Tram
Petroglyph National Monuments
Trip to Santa Fe

The Sandia Mountain Wilderness
The Rio Grande Nature Center
Nob Hill

I agree with the other posters about lots of Call Center jobs as i always see in the Sunday Newspaper ads for Verizon, Sprint and Comcast as just a few of them. Apply at any of them and you'll be working within the week.

Just use some common sense and you should be fine Skippy. I remember back in the early 90's when i lived in Florida and how gangs were robbing people who stopped at the rest areas along the interstates and they even shot and killed a german family visiting Disney World so crime can happen anywhere.

I'd say probably stay north of Central Blvd is some good advice in general. The new HUGE Verizon Call Center is on Central blvd and Coors blvd but that area should be o.k. if you decided to work there and i also beleive they have 24 hour security patrolling their parking lots.

6/3

I read something somewhere about NM passing a law back in 2003 to stop the kind of predatory lending that is fueling the current credit crisis. My understanding (which may be flawed, as I can't remember the source) is that the foreclosure rate in ABQ is low due to this preventative measure.

If I can say this with being political -- New Mexico's very reasonable precautions got overriden by people in Washington, DC. Everyone is free to conjecture about the political stripe of those involved.

Nonetheless, NM, perhaps because we lacked the numbers to attract the vultures, was spared much of the excess.

If anyone is concerned about foreclosure they can go to RealtyTrac and enter the zip code of interest. RealtyTrac will send you all sorts of property listings including many outside your zip code and the number will be in the hundreds. Look only at Bank Owned and Auction properties. If they total less than ten, then forget about it.
