Hello all,

Grew up in Alb. went to Portales for college, and then to NYC, where I have been for the last 10 years.

Recently found out I'm pregnant, and I really don't want to raise my child in the NYC public school system (much much worse than Alb.).

My problem is that I work in field that provides tons of positions out here, but I am not finding any good information about whether or not paying nonprofit jobs can even be found in Alb.

My ten years of experience are all in youth development and afterschool, and I prefer work with teenagers. I love what I do, but obviously, providing for my child is my primary concern.

I am not interested in knowing whether or not there are nonprofit jobs in alb, that I can research for myself (mom and brother live there too.) however, I don't even know where to begin looking for such a thing.

My resources will mainly be online and whatever material my mother can send me or read to me over the phone. I remember as a teen, really struggling to find a job I could even tolerate. I have a BA in theater performance and a 10 year career in the afterschool world. Odd combination, I know. Any ideas?

PS: my fiancee has a certificate in Pastry Arts (another fabulous field out here). Any ideas for him either?

Thanks! Any help is appreciated.

I'm a bookkeeper, and I've never seen so many postings for accountant/bookkeeper positions for non-profits as I have here in ABQ. There's definitely a bunch here. I suspect the same might also be said for Santa Fe, but again, that's just job postings in my field. On the other hand, from the audits my firm has done, I also suspect many of the non-profits are small (2-5 office staff or all volunteer), not big ones like United Way.

As for the Pastry Arts, if that's the same as a Pastry Chef, he might check out the casino hotels and resort hotels like the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort.

Before I moved here, I researched jobs in ABQ on-line and via classifieds, and had the impression it was a tight job market. However, in reality, my experience was vastly different (NO problem finding a job) and I think many of the jobs here never make it on-line or get published in the paper - filled perhaps by networking & referrals and agencies. I read many years ago where less than 20% of all job openings are ever published, and I think that may hold true for ABQ.

Have you tried calling some of the major employment agencies and temp agencies, to get a feel for what you do and the market here? I've sent a resume to agencies in the past prior to relocating and received good advice from them prior to the move. Can't hurt
