Anyone moved to ABQ for health reasons?
I was wondering if anyone here has moved to ABQ for health reasons. If so, was it helpful or did you get worse? I am thinking specifically about such things as skin(Psoriasis) and/ or arthritis problems, things that could be helped by a drier, warmer climate. I was in Abq in December 07 and boy, was it dry, at least compared to Seattle. I will be visiting again June 19-25 to see how I do in the heat. Thanks.

I don't know about psoriasis, but seborrheic dermatitis seems to be exacerbated by dry conditions. Of course, they have different causes so...
Of course, New Mexico ranks in the top 10 locations in the world for incidence of skin cancer so in that regard it is a terrible place for your health.
As far as arthritis, we have, seasonally, frequent pressure fluctuations, especially in late summer/early fall (monsoon season) but perhaps someone here with arthritis can give you better information than I on how impactful those are on their symptoms.

My oldest daughter has JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) and seems to be doing really well here. However, her joints have been bugging her more then usual over the past few weeks. But, sometimes her allergies trigger flare ups. It seems all our allergies have been bad recently.
I hope that helps some.

Thank you, that does help. Our allergies here in Seattle have been really bad this year. I am coming to visit ABQ again June 20th to see how I feel about the heat. I was there in December so I am trying to get a feel for each season. So far, I have a good impression.

Our family would never have left Maryland (1940's) had my Grandfather not been in need of a drier climate.

I have asthma and the dryness here has helped tremendously. In Maine, I was using my inhalers regularly. Now, I very seldom need them.
My husband has noticed that his shoulders do not bother him here like they did back in Maine.

I visited ABQ again in June and my aches and pains were much relieved. It was such a relief. My asthma was better too. Boy, it was hot although the lack of humidity was helpful.
As we approached Seattle on the plane, my aches and pains started to return. That confirms it for me, the altitude or weather affects my symtoms.
I can't wait to get moved!

That's great, christylou. Do you have a date yet?
I was wondering how you've been sorta long term Alison. Good to hear it's still relatively stable in that aspect.
