Default We will be in Albuquerque next week

We start our retirement city hunting trip on Saturday in Reno then on to Albuquerque, Las Cruces & El Paso. I'm really looking forward to this after reading so much about these cities.

Norm best of luck to you in your search. If you're seeking warmer climates I'm guessing ABQ, Las Cruces, or El Paso will win out. Reno is a nice city as well, and at least you're close to California for vacations.

I echo finmqa1's setiments, norm.

Nothing in the world wrong with Reno, but from a climate standpoint, I would be more biased towards ABQ, Las Cruces, or El Paso.

If you are looking for the "neatest" big city in terms of ammenities, growth, cultural stuff, etc., Albuquerque will win out. If you are looking for the city with palm trees, unreal year-round weather, and more of a semi-tropical feel (as much as you can be in a desert), El Paso will win out. If you are looking for a smaller town, it'll be Las Cruces.

Good luck to you! I envy your trip immensely!

Thanks EnjoyEP. Coming from the New York city area I'm sure Reno's winters would feel balmy to us. Those are the four cities that made the final list and you never know what you will like or dislike about a place until you see it for yourself.

You are so right, on both counts. Once you visit a place, you'll just know whether it works for you or not. As to the winters, having spent many years freezing on an LIRR platform, I've found that even when it's cold in NM, without the high humidity levels, it just doesn't SEEM as cold. Plus, you always seem to get sunshine! Enjoy the trip and have fun searching
