Thanks all! It seems to be pretty conclusive that Verizon is strongly recommended. Their coverage map looks good too, less patchy than T-Mobile. My husband is on T-Mobile, but I think it might be a good idea for us to have different providers, so at least one of our phones might have a chance at working where ever we are.

Just keep in mind that many companies will offer free cell-to-cell minutes for people in the same network. That could reduce your overall all bill for calls between the two of you (if you're trying to keep costs down)

Gotta give everyone on this thread and on the ABQ section of the C-D Forum a big hand. Yep, lots of information is provided by some really 'good people'. Have had/having some off-forum communications that are simply fantastic. Thanks to ALL.

I have Sprint, kept it when I moved here. So far, it's worked fine. Couple of dead spots in town, like anywhere else, but I know where they are so I can work around it. Was up in Santa Fe last Saturday, and it worked fine up there as well.

We have AT&T and have had good coverage around NM. However, my parents were dropped by them because they are not in a 'coverage area' where they live and were considered "roaming" for much of their use. Thus costing AT&T too much money. So much for "unlimited roaming".

I think now they are on Verizon but again, they are patched into other service providers due to where they live. But at least they have service now... mostly.

Thanks again all. So I've been looking into the plans further, and since I'd want internet access for web surfing on my phone, I don't think that Verizon is the co. for me. Anyone have experience with T-Mobile? I'd consider AT&T and the iPhone, but I've just heard so many bad things about AT&T and spotty service in ABQ.

Blue Belle your post confuses me a little bit. I have Internet on my blackberry from Verizon, are you refering to price or are you saying that they don't have the service? Sorry, just a bit confused. I will agree with you that Verizons prices can be steeper than the competition, but VZW has the best coverage around the state. However, I have heard T-Mobile has gotten much better, and I have never been impressed with Cingulair/AT&T when I had them. Hope this post helped!

i have a blackberry with t-mobile. I get good service. Their coverage has really improved the past few years in the state. I do have a a few shaky spots when I'm way out in Rio Rancho in the yet-to-be-developed areas. As far as outside the city and around the state, I've had great service from Las Cruces, near Taos, and on the Navajo Reservation (sorry SE, I don't travel there much).

I have been very happy with my service with T-mobile and I have always been very happy with their customer service.

Price and the lack of a Blackberry with Wi-Fi (the Curve 8320). And it sounds like they sometimes put random limits on their data usage.
