Daniel24, we got the same news last week. We're in Colorado. I did a search in this ABQ forum on "Rio Rancho" and founds lots of posts going back over the last couple of years. You might find those helpful. We're going to RR next week to look around and get some info. I have family from Las Cruces to ABQ. I grew up in southern NM, so I'm not as familier with ABQ and surrounding areas, but if there's anything I can find out for you, I'll see if I can be of any help. Feel free to send me a message.

I've looked at many listings in Rio Rancho. There's lots of small houses there as well. It has a variety of housing.

You may want to look into Paradise Hills as well.

hmm..
Cool, I wonder if they'll hire just by phone or fly current employees to interview as I already work for HP and am not going to travel a thousand miles if I'm not sure about getting the job :P My assumption is that they'll pay less there since a lot of times why companies move, or if theyre just consolidating different departments and saving money in other ways. They've made a lot of small recent organizational shifts over here to cut costs. The good thing is that if youre a sales person they cant really afford to let you go; only if youre in management or something else that can be shuffled around.

Daniel, there are lots of pluses about RR, and I can speak from personal experience, having lived there with my family. The housing is affordable on the west side of the ABQ metro (in general), the schools are very good, the new city center is also going to have a campus for UNM, retail shops, Lions Gate film studio and a hospital (UNM). We had a great library, nice public parks and playgrounds, and most of the amenities we needed, plus access to ABQ for shopping/dining and great mountain views! If you want to scout out housing prices, I suggest looking at the public access pages for the ABQ Metro MLS, ABQREALTOR.COM. It allows you to search by specific areas. You can also google Rio Rancho, and check out both the City Website and also the Rio Rancho Economic Development Council. Both have info on the services in the city and the development of the new city center area. Good luck!

I heard the Lionsgate Film deal is kinda stuck. I think there was a disagreement between the city and Lionsgate or something along those lines and now they might have pulled out.
As far as housing, if the op is going to work at the new HP plant, which correct me if im wrong will be in the RR city center, he would probably be best finding a house right in the city. Or specifically on the west side of the city of RR. There are some good neigborhoods right there, and you would have a commute of about 5 minutes.

As an HP employee (or are you a Contractor?) go to the HP Internal hiring site/ Sales / Colorado Springs /Inside Sales Rep or Public Sector ISR - look for the requesting managers name - go to Outlook - pull up his/her number and call them direct. Just prior to calling email them your resume so it's in front of them. You normally won't be able to close them on the telephone - you'll still need a face to face. You need to get on board in the Springs prior to the big move. Once HP is in New Mexico the local hires need to be residents of the state for one year prior to the hiring. Otherwise every one and their brother and sister would be moving to NM to work for HP and the local hires wouldn't have the advantage that they deserve - it's their home court.
Find out the current quoting program used in Public Sector - if you don't have experience with it - and you probably don't - find a way to access it internally. Public Sector is a different ballgame than consumer.
Good Luck!

Kensgirl,
Your comment " the schools are very good ". How is that measured? In colorado we have CSAP test to measure how well a school is performing. Is there a statewide or national rating system you can reference for us? Is there a web page (ie more that the school's default page)?
thx
