Well, not that anyone is extremely interested in this ... BUT ...

I unofficially "retired" when I was in my late 50s because my knees were very bad and walking the corridors of the hospital were just too painful. I went into an exercise program and now three years later, I am in better shape than I have been in many years....SO I could go back to work now if I wanted but "retirement" is so nice that I am not sure I would want to go back to the hard work, backbiting, short staffing, politics, and terrible hours that nursing involves. But who knows ... the nursing shortage is acute and sometimes I feel guilty and have not ruled out returning.

So there you have it. One foot in the grave?? UHHH. NO.

Enjoying all the free time? Sure am.

So I guess I will accept the membership in the "old retired gals club."

P.S. I have to say that my general philosophy about aging is that some people are old at 40 and some people are young at 80. So who gets to judge these things?

"Oh!" "Oh!" "Me!" "Me!" < jumping from one leg to another with arms waving about in the air > "Me!" "Me!"

I've already stuck my nosey old hiney in on this issue, so it HAS to be ME!

It's norm's fault. Blame him.

Default Bernalillo

Norm - I relocated to Bernalillo about 14 months ago. I think it is a pretty cool place. Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer.

About 20 years ago, Bernalillo was a quaint, hispanic farming town that preseved the values and lifeway of the middle Rio Grande Valley.

Today, it is Rio Rancho's big-box store/fastfood parking lot.

So was Albuquerque 60 years ago.

A decade or so later, I was born and ruined everything.

Have to agree with you, ABQ Convict. I hear the Indian smoke shop on 550, which has been razed, is being replaced by an iHop.

The stretch of Hwy. 550 from Hwy. 428 to I-25 is a real eye sore: nothing but fast food places. Only positives are the Jackelope, the Coronado Bar & Grill, and Pharmacy Plus.

Hi Norm & All...do you know anything about Bernalillo High School? As far as safety or openess to outsiders/non-hispanics? It looks so small compared to RR high. We are looking all around ABQ, but need a rural setting (2-5 acres) not too far out of town if possible (30 min or less). I don't want my kids to be outasts for not speaking spanish--although we all hope to learn!

The other area that keeps coming up is Edgewood/Moriarty, but I have read good things about Placitas and did find a house or 2 worth looking at there in our price range (mid to low $300's or less)--if the school is ok.

Any info and areas worth considering--or even more valuable--areas to avoid???--from anyone would help! Thanks!
