ashleyrw88 is on a distinguished road
You guys have been great, I feel really well informed so far!
Actually speaking of cinnamon tree, those are the apartments we are kind of set on for now. They have alot of amenity type things and are pretty nice for a reasonable price. Its at least somewhere to start off.

I don't get spooked by crime too easily or get paranoid about it. Im pretty far from the average paranoid easily frightened american. So I think I'll be okay for a while.

I stopped in the Talin market and the tea shop next door to use the internet for a while, and I must say Im very glad to be living right next door.

I really appreciate everyone talking about the things close to the area, I'll make sure to check them all out.

Im also very glad to hear there is such an arts community there. Especially with all the theatres around, I fully intend on checking them out and hopefully being able to get involved somehow.

Thank you for the information on the healthcare nightwishfan, that will also definitely come in handy!

Also: In addition to music/arts etc. how is the local music scene as far as alternative/indie/punk/rock...just anything up that alley really. Just wondering if anyone might know? Are there lots of bands that tour through ABQ?

Any more information would be greatly accepted, Im drinking it all in and paying attention to everything

You couldn't pay me to stay at the Cinnamon Tree or anywhere else in that area. For the same money you can live in the student ghetto/University area. I agree Talin is the coolest market - but I just take the rapid ride when I need to shop there.

Nightwishfan is right -UNM offers free health care based on your income. It's available to all county residents...you call, make an appointment and bring your financials. It's on a sliding scale and the co-pay is based on how much you make. Call the hospital main line and ask to speak with the financial department.

For our size it seems like we get a pretty good variety of alt related musicians here, though sadly many of my favorites don't usually make a stop in NM. Here's a link to the Launchpad (calendar link is on the left) if you scroll down they also list shows playing at the Sunshine theater. The Launchpad in Albuquerque New Mexico

Burt's Tiki Lounge Events Burt's Tiki Lounge has live music too, though I've never been there.

Albuquerque also has Spring and Fall Crawls downtown, where you buy a ticket that gets you into all the participating venues. My friends say they're pretty fun, though I haven't made it to one yet.

For bigger names, or groups that just aren't as well known in these parts, you can usually catch shows in El Paso (about a 4 hour drive) Tuscon (4 or 5 hours?) Or for the very dedicated, Denver/Red Rocks (about 6 hours).

There's a coffee shop off of Girard and Indian School, I think it's the Blue Dragon (?) been awhile since I've been there. Anyhow, they have live music quite often as well.

You will probably not have any problem finding some sort of live music that you enjoy (even if the band is new to you) on a weekly basis. Downtown's nice at night and the main venues are all within walking distance of each other. Saturday nights down there are usually pretty festive. Not sure if the local bus system is doing it this year, but in years past they have offered late night bussing from central down to the downtown area in the Summer, helpful if everyone in your group wants to drink .
