Hi Alison
Congratulations on moving to New Mexico. I, too, am moving to New Mexico as soon as my house is built in the Alegria community in Bernalillo. I expect to be out there in January 2009!! I am also moving from the East - live in New Jersey, work in Phila - and can't wait to leave it all behind, esp. the humidity!! Did you drive cross county? Did you move furniture? Any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated!! So looking forward to joining you all soon!!

Take your time and enjoy yourself. Get off the interstate and see some of the little towns. Even a little town you never heard of can have something interesting. You'll find interesting restaurants and places to stay -- not the ubiquitous chains of the interstates. And you'll meet people who are happy to see people from somewhere else.

We had originially thought of driving ourself but decided with our 4 yr old grandson, and two cats, that it would be just too long of a trip. Then we checked into the cost of moving ourselves and no way.
We ended up getting a trailer from ABF and loaded it and they are bringing it here as I write. We flew out, which was the only way to go.
If you can drive cross country, do so. I was rather disappointed we couldn't, but at the same time, flying got us out here sooner.
I thought it was neat that they offered seeds for all the xeric-type landscaping.
I have seen this site before and its wonderful. I cannot wait until I can have my own garden. Hope to go to Jackalope tomorrow as they are just up the street from our hotel. Just haven't had time yet.
Today we took a ride out to Grants to look around. Such a beautiful drive. I have to get more batteries tomorrow for my digi camera as ran them dead again. Guess I need to buy rechargable ones. LOL
I've seen those plants around too and I wonder what it is, does anyone know?
