Question Restaurants open for Thanksgiving?

Are there any good restaurants open on Thanksgiving (and possibly Christmas) in ABQ? Due to work commitments holidays with family will be out, but we would like to find somewhere nice to have dinner. It is just the two of us, with no kids.

Suggestions?

Our favorite for Thanksgiving dinner is Rancho de Chimayo, but I see it is closed due to a fire. Looks like they are trying to get it back up and running so I hope it's open by Thanksgiving. It's a bit of a drive, but a nice drive, especially at that time of year.

My first Thanksgiving in Albuquerque (Nov. 1990), the only restaurant I could find open was Dunkin' Donuts. I had just moved into the dorms at UNM and didn't know anyone so I got a croissant sandwich there. Pretty depressing but I got to write a lame folk song about it.

A few years ago, my family was out of town so I stayed in ABQ with my college roommate at the time. I went to Boston's and got a thanksgiving dinner and took it back to my place. Granted it wasn't as good as grandma's cooking lol, but it was pretty damn good food. And it was all the thanksgiving stuff so it still felt like thanksgiving. You could eat there, but I took it to go so I could watch football at my place.

This is making me miss Cali LOL. We went to Disneyland for Thanksgiving or to their Thanksgiving buffet which has a tremendous amount of beautifully displayed food. It's so different here. I've also heard that the casino restaurants are open. We have not visited the casinos as of yet. I can see it is going to be an interesting holiday.

The wife and I tried Sandia Casino restaurant for the holidays; the food was good, the service fast, and the price OK by me. Sandia is in the North; although I have not tried them I suspect you could also try Isleta in the South or Casino 66 in the West. I may have the names wrong, but you can Google, as needed.

My best "ghetto" Thanksgiving in ABQ was spent with friends at the Downs. We drank, ate at the cheap buffet and bet on the horses all afternoon. Brings a smile to my face.

That sounds like fun! Would it be more or less 'appropriate' to celebrate Thanksgiving on a reservation??

Why not just call around to some restaurants to see if they will be open?

I remember in Kansas City, there were many restaurants open on Thanksgiving, and they always advertised in the paper, with their Thanksgiving menu.

I would think ABQ would be the same.

I am thinking you meant the casinos when you asked about celebrating on a Rez. When I went to the Downs, Sandia was just a big white tent - no buffets so it wasn't an option.

I probably would still go to the Downs versus Sandia or Isleta based on the fact that I was able to drink (woohoo!) and place my bets in the same area as the buffet.
