Thumbs up Albuquerque Fittest City in US

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Albuquerque's mayor says the city has a lot of options to keep people fit — everything from gyms to hiking and biking. And because of those options, "Albuquerque is a very fit city," Mayor Martin Chavez said.

This has got to be the most fitness-oriented city I have ever been in by far. Every day, you can observe huge quantities of walkers, runners, bikers, golfers, etc., everywhere. It really is amazing. It is just a big culture of living in Albuquerque - the weather, the dryness, the sunshine, and the topography surely help to stimulate that.

While other regions surely lead ABQ in "vain fitness"...I have never seen more genuine fitness practiced day-in-and-day-out in any other major U.S. city than I do here in ABQ.

Another nice little "title" that ABQ can add to its readily growing list!

Yup, It sure is a nice title.
I live in Ventana Ranch, and the community has a nice trail system throughout. From what I've seen all the new planned communities have a trail system, and this is besides the city's trail system which is impressive.

does this fittness actually translates to less fat people, than other midwestern/southeastern cities? ....hmmm not sure (although chiles meant to help the metabolism)... in any case well done ABQ!

I'll believe this latest buzz when I can walk into any department store and easily find my pant size without having to wade through piles of w40 x L32! But if this news is true, I'm definitely proud to hear it.

Hey now...LOL... being fit doesn't mean you are slender. It means you get lots of exercise, eat right etc. And I agree that Albuquerque affords lots of fitness alternatives. I love that! Although I prefer hiking in the moutains in the East than here -- haven't even done it here. But I love the walking paths in the various neighborhoods. My mom's neighborhood has them and we enjoy that. Mine doesn't unfortunately. I like that Defined Fitness has so many great classes, especially dance classes -- I take hip hop, salsa and belly dancing and I'm also belly dancing with a troupe too. But I'm far from slender, much more on the voluptuous side and I execise 6 out of 7 days a week!

Well said! People get "fit" and "thin" mixed up frequently it seems.
