Well, the business I work for is being hit really hard by price increases for raw materials. This means layoffs, and for me, a cut back in hours so severe that I won't be getting that health insurance I was hoping for unless I get a second/different job.

Oh well. Other than that I'm doing pretty well. I have a roof over my head.

This is interesting, and consistent with the results of the same poll in the General Forum. Many people still feel that they are doing fine. I urge everyone to be cautious, but recognize that the media plays a large part in shaping our thoughts. Fear is rampant in the media right now.

I couldn't agree more. MSM is also oriented to the very liberal, and is working very hard to get certain candidates elected.

Well sadly we in the Apartment industry are Booming as more and more people get tossed from their homes with all this housing crap and mess we are in so our numbers are booming in our industry as they are moving into Apartments/Duplexes etc...but at the expense of many home purchasers losing getting the ax...

But again we are BOOMING !!

I am doing well, but I'm in Houston... so we've been isolated from most of the housing decline. I don't think I'll have near as much job security in ABQ.

I am doing very well, but I wish I could say the same for my retirement accounts. Bail out or no bail out, my investments will take a hit.

We can blame anyone or everyone, but the real blame in my book: the greedy lenders, the greedy purchasers and most the stupid media. I don't care if its Fox (my choice) or MSNBC.

Now, how are we doing? Luckily I guess, we don't have all that much money to worry about: we seem to be doing fine, no, I don't want to get the statement next month, but the following month who knows. It could be worse.

No need for the media to spread fear, George W did a pretty good job of that last night.

I posted this answer elsewhere:

We could be better and likely to get worse. Most credit paid off. Wage income effectively fixed and inflation is slowly, well not so slowly, eating up the disposable income. Vacations to new mexico and elsewhwere are canceled for foreseeable future because of increases in fuel and lodging costs.

We are not living nearly as well as we did during the late 90’s and we expect that our income will stay the same, or drop drastically if and when I retire, while inflation will continue to erode our ability to do anything more than keep working full time.

I do not know if this economy will accelerate or delay our retirement to New Mexico.
