Imagine our surprise when we woke up this morning to balloons outside our skylights... after rushing from window to window we also discovered that we have a view (albeit distance as we are in Bernalillo) of the balloon launch field!!! We could see the balloons just as they were lifting off the ground and by newcomers luck, the wind was in our favor and our house was in today's (Saturday) flight path. Most of the balloons passed either directly overhead or just to either side of us!! AMAZING!!!!! Bear, our dog, thought we were being invaded and barked and growled accordingly! We've had lots of lookie-loos driving by and I'm sure a few chasers as well - looks like many of the balloons landed just north of us in Bernalillo or Placitas or the surrounding environs! Tomorrow will be our first time actually AT the Balloon Fiesta! So exciting! I'm so glad we were able to see this spectacle on our first year of Balloon Fiesta! What a welcome to Albuquerque. ~Sogs
The beer stein made us thirsty for something other than our morning coffee! HAHA Its a rental house we found & fell in love with... and now we love it even more. We feel very lucky to have found it, especially since this was not an area we were even looking at!! Maybe we should have an early morning party next year... course then the winds would be from the north and we wouldn't see a thing! haha Yeah, poor Bear - he's 12 and is having some serious issues with his back-legs. We are trying a new medicine but are afraid its time to say good-bye to this faithful and loyal companion. Heartbreaking. But he sure was going to chase off those balloons - he'd get one barked out of sight and turn around and there were 10 more coming over the trees. I think he was a bit perplexed on why we weren't more concerned.
We had a dog years ago in Kansas who was scared to death of hot air balloons -- he used to go crazy trying to find a place to hide when a balloon would go over the house.
Sounds like Bear is a lot braver than that -- and must protect your house!
One of my bosses has a house off of Elena near the casino and a wide open view of the balloons this morning, although not nearly as good as your view, Sogs. Unfortunately, the cathedral, Darth Vadar, Nemo, the cow, the urn and the stage coach all landed near the park before making it your way. It was amusing to watch Darth chase Nemo. Did you guys get to see the strawberry or the lady bug? Those two looked like they were staying up pretty well.
If your dog is having problems related to arthritis or hip dysplasia, you might ask your vet about Adequan injections. Did wonders for my dog.
Wow, Soggy, those pictures make me so jealous that you get to be out in NM. I can't wait till I'm done school so I can move on out. Your house looks so nice, too.
