Watermelon Mountain Ranch
Hey all,
Anybody have experience as a Foster Family for WMR?
Was it difficult to give-up the pet when the time came (duh, of course it was)?
Any input would be appreciated!

Have never fostered an animal as I know I would not be able to give it up. (Heck I cried when we gave away a litter of kittens years ago.) But we adopted our dog from WMR and they are wonderful people there. I say go for the fostering, who knows you might end up adopting the dog.
When we are ready for a second dog, we plan to adopt one from there again.

It's heart breaking reading the bios of the animals on their website.
I could barely handle reading about the deaf puppy looking for a home.

We were out there last Sat during that awful thunderstorm, as its where her dog obedience classes are held. Thank goodness only two of us showed up as we had to retreat inside the kennel. The tent we usually use blew away.

If you're wanting to foster, you might look into helping a new group, Almost Home NM:
Almost Home NM
They focus heavily on trying to save adoptable pets from the Valencia County Shelter, which is a kill shelter that does not operate for the convenience of the abandoned pets, keeping them as little as 3 days before killing them. Almost Home NM could use a few good fosters.

Aw...Moses wants to come home with ME! He'd fit right in with Roscoe the Wonder Dog (red heeler) and Josey (blue heeler).

I have been wondering the same thing! We adopted our kittens from a CARMA adoption drive at Pet Smart, but we've seen Watermelon Ranch there several times. Both CARMA and W.R. need foster families desperately. I would like nothing more than to be a foster to an animal waiting to be placed into a permanent, loving home, but I *know* it would kill me emotionally to give it up. I form extremely deep attachments to their sweet little souls, and it would be too painful to let it go after I helped to raise it. Even though I know it would be a good deed, I am just not strong enough to accept the separation.
I am ready to cry now! See... animals pull my heartstring more than anything else.
I've considered asking CARMA and W.R. if they need food, leash or litter donations. Maybe I can help that way! Perhaps they could identify more loving fosters if some of the supplies were paid for.

I know WMR would gladly accept donations. I think all of the animal agencies would. I am crocheting kitty blankies for WMR. I used to do this back in Maine for our humane society.

We'd love to have you at Watermelon Mountain Ranch
Hi all. I saw your great posts and thought I'd respond. I'm Mike Davis the development and communications director out at the ranch and we have some exciting things in the works. Next month we will be transferring more than 100 animals from the city of Albuquerque shelters to our facilities and foster homes. We'd love to have as many new fosters for this project as we can get. This is a short term foster. All of these animals will find forever homes at our Home 4 the Holidays event in December. Last year we set national records for a weekend adoptathon and we hope to do even better this year, and your help is appreciated. Donations of leashes, pet food, collars and other supplies is always welcome too.
To foster, donate or to volunteer at the ranch call us at 771-0140 or email us at wmranch@aol.com. You can reach us on the web at watermelon mountain ranch
