Default Albuquerque Barber Shops?

Hello to all,

I was just curious about what types of barber shops are available in Albuquerque. I have searched this subject in this forum and I don't think that anyone has asked about this. I am currently in the military and I really enjoy the old-school types of haircuts where the barbers use a straight-edge razor to trim around the ears... I haven't lived in the states for a LONG time, but the last time I lived on the mainland (back in '99) I found it difficult to find a barber that would cut with a straight edge razor - for safety purposes I guess.

I want to know if anyone knows if these types of barbers still exist in Albuquerque, because I would like to find a place to frequent when I retire in a couple of years. I am now in Okinawa and I get my hair cut by these awesome old Japanese ladies at the NCO club on Kadena Air Force Base, and I am hoping to find a similar type of inexpensive hair-cutting experience when I move back stateside.

Thanks in advance!

I love this question!

Sierra Azul Barber Shop
3615 Wyoming Blvd NE # A
Albuquerque, NM 87111

Professional older men that use straight razors and offer magazines like Motor Trend to read (none of that awful Martha Stewart junk).

I've been out of the state for a while, but my last cut wasn't more than 8 bucks.

Good suggestion Rybert. Anyone know of one in the Nob Hill area or vicinity (UNM, Highland Heights, Downtown, etc.)?

Most of the barbers in Albuquerque are old school. They use hot lather and straight razors. I use Robert's Barber shop at 4th and Ortega NW. I pay 10.00 plus tip.

Any other suggestions? I too just moved to ABQ and am interested in a quality, old school barber. Someplace where the business professionals of the area go.
Thanks.

I go to Robert's, too. It's a friendly place where you can get your hair cut in 7 minutes and catch up on the local news at the same time.

If I could summarize this place in one word, it would be "integrity".

Default Albuquerque Barber Shops?

I don't know if I'm asking the right people here

But just wondering, anybody know where I can get good urban haircut

such as a taper, line up, shape up , etc. In Albuquerque?

I'm not looking for a beauty salon, or an old fashioned barbershop

or a commercial "Great Clips" type of place either.

If you know of any please share please

Thanks

There's a barber shop here in Barelas on 4th Street near Bridge Blvd. The name escapes me at the moment, but it is owned by younger guys and I've seen guys go in and come out with the type of haircuts you describe. It's directly across the street from the Barelas Coffee House and is right next to the McDonald's at 4th and Bridge.

Don't confuse it with the other barbershop farther up 4th Street in Barelas. That is an old school place owned by an older gentleman.
