Just found out my husbands will be working in zip code 87123, does anyone know about this area, what areas are best to look as far as houses close by? We decided he is going to take the job, the guy called us today, we will be moving around the first of January. we will be making a trip in less than 45 days out there (for five days) to look at the area.
Here are some zip codes of houses we have been looking into
87114, 87124, and 87144 any ideas on these areas?
address is 400 Wyoming Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87123

I live in area code 97144. Rio Rancho.
We love it here, and my husband commutes to ABQ every day. Schools here are supposed to be very good. There is plenty to do here, two wonderful libraries, an aquatic center for swimming. Lots of school sports, ect.
Some folks are apt to say its the boonies out here, but its far from it. I lived in the boonies in Maine, and even the largest city in Maine is smaller than Rio Rancho.
We looked in alot of different areas before we settled on RR. It was by far the best we found.

Have you ever used Google Maps? They have a Street View function that allows you to "walk" through
areas at eye level. You can "cruise" up streets, pan in a complete circle, etc., etc.
I just plugged in the 400 Wyoming Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87123 address and took a look around at a
rather "industrial" intersection.
Go to Google, select "maps", enter the address and then select "street view" in the little pop-up
window. It's pretty easy to use.
We relied heavily on Google Maps when we were in Panama and looking for property in ABQ. It can't always
tell you what's a GOOD neighborhood, but it can sure help you identify shaky or outright bad ones.
Hope that helps.

Those zips are Rio Rancho and Paradise Hills (I think - the map puts it on the westside south of Rio Rancho).
I would guesstimate about a 25-40 min commute during rush hour??? Lower end for Paradise Hills, higher end for Rio Rancho. Am I going overboard here anyone?
What is your price range??? I would steer you towards Manzano Mesa if you are looking for a short commute but you would have to go to the APS website to see what school cluster it is in (Manzano High perhaps???)
from: 400 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque to: Southern and Elizabeth, Albuquerque - Google Maps
Hope that link/pic works. It shows the 5 minute, give or take what traffic lights you encounter, commute.

This is one of the neighborhoods in Manzano Mesa
Albuquerque, NM 87123 Real Estate and Albuquerque, NM 87123 Homes For Sale | Zillow Real Estate
Its called Willow Wood - if the link does not work, go to zillow and plug in 87123. Look for Manzano Mesa Park and then just click on houses around there.
There are also homes East of Tramway around Copper Ave that are near a nice little park with a playground. City View Estates park I think. I think the neighborhood is OK. Its been years since I lived there - used to live right off of Tramway and Copper.
Those are just some ideas for a shorter work commute. Its worth a look, even if you do end up going with the original zips you mentioned.
I know nothing of the areas you are looking at besides where they are; I hear the west side has exploded though so there could be everything you could possibly want or need out there.

PARENTS BEWARE…..here is my story. My son 8th grade, 7th upon entering the Los Lunas Middle School from APS schools has been spec ed since 1st grade due to behavior and social problems associated with ADHD. He has for the most part been is seclusion classes throughout his school years. My son was after two weeks in regular ed classes and suspended from school at the beginning of his 7th grade year, told he could not return until they implemented an off campus seclusion spec ed program. Several weeks later, he was put into a seclusion class in a portable by Century High School. After re-evaluating him for spec ed in their own report came to the conclusion that further testing was needed; however, decided that he should be in reg ed classes with three being inclusion classes for his 8th grade year. After three or four schedule changes within the first two weeks of school, he was finally in the classes that they felt would be beneficial to him. After failing grades and several suspensions, I contacted the very incompetent principal to say this isn’t working and that I want him back in the seclusion class. I was then told that I would have to have an IEP scheduled before this change could be implemented. In early Nov 2008, an IEP was held where I was told that my son no longer qualifies for spec ed services, and after expressing my extreme disagreement was told that he could remain in his current classes but would not receive any further spec ed services. I made many attempts to contact the head of the spec ed dept to see what I could do to get this overturned and get my son back in spec ed, with no return calls or any concern from the school district. I even tried to go to the superintendent level to no avail. M id Dec 2008 two days before winter break after another altercation with a student he was long term suspended for the rest of the school year. I am not still currently in process of filing a state complaint and trying to get him reinstated into spec ed before he goes into high school, as he needs these services. No one in the LL School administration has any right to be in a position of educating our children. They have absolutely no concern for children with special needs. No wonder these schools in Los Lunas are at the bottom in the state. Because of the Los Lunas schools my son has not received an education for the majority of his eighth grade year, a right of every student to receive a free education…..no child left behind….only for the “normal” kids I guess, what a joke.

I am moving back to albuq from Los Lunas, and you can do research on the schools that you want to look into.....I thought La Cueva would be the best school; however, after reading the ratings and posts from other parents and students no way.....I found one of the best high schools in albuq to be Sandia High School.

I'm puzzled as to why the rant agains the Los Lunas school system's special ed division is posted in a thread about relocating to Albuquerque.
I made it through the posts, with a headache (!) and can only suggest you access the Wright's law website, find an advocate for your child, and wish you well with a severly ADHD child in an ABQ public school.
