Which are the Bad/High Crime Areas of ABQ?
I am thinking of moving to ABQ and looking to buy a condo.
To get me started, could someone outline the areas that are high crime and "bad" neighborhoods. ( A link to an online resource with a map outlining these areas would be great as I am a visual learner.)
I am single white woman, mid 50's and looking for safe areas to live.
Thanks

Search CrimeReports.com
"The Albuquerque Police Department is now making local up-to-date crime data available to the public through CrimeReports.com."
from http://www.cabq.gov/police/
You can play around with the map by type of crime, dates, etc... Rather interesting....
The one thing I wish it had was the city limits.

Well alot depends on your budget. If you can afford it go to the far Northeast Heights. If not, look to the west side - Taylor Ranch has some nice townhomes (keep in mind they call 'condos' townhomes there. Where I come from townhomes were all at least two-story but not there. They are usually single story attached or semi attached homes. Very nice actually. I used to own one. They are not of the high-rise variety.)

Thanks to the replies.
My budget is under 150K, but actually I really just want to know which areas to avoid.
Thanks again

If you stay a couple blocks north of Central you'll avoid what most people consider the tougher areas. That's not to say there isn't nice areas south of Central, it's just spotty and you have to either know what you're looking at, or know someone who does. North of Central is no guarantees, but you're missing the rougher sections. Just be aware that Albuquerque can be very spotty. We always suggest you either rent or have a look around before you commit because even on the north side the difference from one block to another can be surprising.
The condo/townhome thing could be another issue. There's not a lot of them, and lately all the new construction in that area has apparently been for a movie screen/jet set crowd that I've never seen around here. I'm not even sure what you'd do in Albuquerque to afford or justify that kind of cost for a glorified apartment. I was splitting a dual level townhouse just south of San Antonio (street) in the NE. It was a lease, but the owner offered it. The offer was at 189k. It may be tough to find the balance of townhome and nice neighborhood at your budget.

I'm actually looking for pretty much the same thing for my mother in law right now. She is about your age and wants to live in a very safe place, somewhere good for the grandchildren to visit.
This is just a matter of opinion but instead of concentrating on the high crime/undesirable areas concentrate on the areas in which you would be very happy and safe living in, it would be much less work.
I would concentrate on the area's east of Tramway then the area's north of Montgomery as there are some very nice and affordable condos just off of Spain. There are other area's but I would personally start with the best and work down. Of course you really need to visit Albuquerque to see for yourself.

Excellent point Berncohomes, and now that you mention it, my grandparents lived in a condo near the intersection of Juan Tabo and Eubank. There's grocery shopping, a nice park and one of the best pubs in town within walking distance. If I pass by I'll try to get a name.

We just spent a month renting in the condos you're mentioning at Spain
and Tramway, Broadstone High Desert, while we were wrapping up our
house purchase. I don't know much about the various floor plans, costs,
etc. because for us it was just temporary, but the facility and
neighborhood is very nice.
But speaking as someone who is starting to creak in the mornings, *NONE*
of the "rim" neighborhoods, those on the edge of the city, are really that
good for the aged because you have to drive everywhere for everything
and that will eventually become an issue.
Just a thought...

more importantly what's the name of the pub? Is it a British style pub?
