Working Downtown
Who here works Downtown?
I'm interviewing with a few firms when we move... what's it like down there?
Food? Gyms? Traffic?

I do. Traffic can be a pain during some hours. There are a few lunch places. Sports and Wellness has a beautiful gym that I use occasionally.

I work for Gap Inc., and I have really enjoyed working Downtown the last 7 1/2 years. There is a Sports and Wellness Gym in our building on the galleria level, which is good enough to work out in, there is also a Sports Club of America by PNM's headquarters. There are plenty of places to eat for lunch, and when you get sick of the Downtown eateries, Nob Hill and Uptown are just a few minutes away. I don't think traffic is bad Downtown but some do. From my house in Ventana Ranch it takes me about 25 to 30 minutes, door to door. But on occasion when the freeway or Paseo, have bad accidents in can take up to 1 1/2 hours as I recently experienced. This is EXTREMELY rare though. It is safe, and you can walk around easily. You'll encounter a lot of homeless folks around the 4th Street Mall and Civic Plaza but they aren't as pushy as the bigger cities. If the Hotel and Arena get built things will get enormously better as there is a retail/restaurant mixed use component.

No, but the Sports Club of America is located in Simms Tower. It is in dire need of a remodel! The good news is you'll have the Flying Star a few blocks away, as well as the Theater Block with Tucanos, and Thai Crystal.

Yeah... we toured the tower a few years ago. Built in 1954... not remodeled since. lol.
The firms I'm interviewing with offer memberships to that gym.
It's weird, the firms in ABQ offer better medical, and an assortment of extra goodies (memberships to Costco, iPhones). I guess they have to add incentives to compensate for the pay reduction.

See, you get a bunch of goodies and a beautiful city with your move! A pay decrease will be compensated with a lower cost of living.

The biggest plus is you won't have to deal with that nasty humidity in Houston,TX no more.
Good luck with the interviews.
