My husband and I moved here mid-Sept and started our job search the beginning of Nov (probably not the best time with the holidays and economy but there you go). So far no luck... He's a mechanical design engineer and I'm a technical trainer/project manager with IT & construction being my background. Not a lot out there for either - we both have our BS's (hmmm... that could be the problem haha) but alot of positions for husband want Master's. Anyway, from our searches on Monster, UNM, state, etc - there are a lot of health-care, retail/services, call center and entry-level management (sales) positions out there. This website lists a lot of the employment links on it - we've found it helpful. The Official Site of Rio Rancho, NM - Related Employment Links I'm a bit bummed to hear about the UNM hiring freeze - I know the state put up a freeze a few weeks ago. Good luck on your search and let's hope for a better New Year... I would hate to have to move to Pep with my parents and raise goats or cows or something.

sapphire904 is on a distinguished road
I moved to ABQ 5 1/2 years ago. I was in the IT field, worked for good companies doing software testing on the East Coast. When I moved, I couldn't find a job ANYWHERE! I had an Assoc. in Computer Programming and 4 years experience in the IT industry. I applied everywhere. It was either settle for a low-paying, high school-education-job or get my Master's degree just to work for Intel or some of the other big companies there. It's one extreme or the other in Albuquerque. It took me 3 months to find a job and all I could get was a bank teller position. I finally moved up in the company to the IT dept. after being with them for 4 years!
Just remember that the pay scale is a lot lower in ABQ. The cost of homes may be lower, too, but some other costs are higher...such as car insurance. Don't go there with a lot of debt under your belt, because you may not get the job you want and will have to settle for less and not be able to pay all your bills. Personal experience...I'm not saying it'll happen to you but just wanted to warn you.

Sapphire, my husband and I have noticed that too - it seems you either need just a high-school/GED degree or you must have a Master's degree for positions here - nothing much in the middle, at least what we've been looking at. However, the couple of places we've talked or have listed their salaries, its comparable to what we made in Seattle... of course we have yet to find jobs.
