I agree than tenants do have a lot of rights there. I broke a lease because my home was roach infested (the whole neighborhood was) and my landlord refused to pay for pest control. Even though I paid for it it didn't do any good. I went to the Landlord Tenant Hotline office, filled out a form and submitted it and that was it. I had no penalty for breaking my lease.

Boy, I really thought Albuquerque was the LEAST snobbish place I've ever lived but it just goes to show you - uppity, condescending people are everywhere - not just in south Florida! I want to add to the original poster though that looking for anything decent in the lower $500''s is going to be very difficult. You need to try to think of something else to cut back on so you can afford something for a min. of $700 in my opinion, unless prices have dropped drastically since I lived there 4 years ago.
