Exclamation Albuquerque Gang TV Report

Especially if you have a family or planning to have one. Albuquerque isn't the "Enchanted Land" it used to be long ago. Albuquerque has serious issues with drugs and gangs and the School system is horrifying. After extensive relocating research well not sure about moving there anymore so watch this on youtube:

YouTube - Albuquerque Gangs TV Report
If the link doesn't work search "Albuquerque Gang TV Report"
I will say that Albuquerque isn't equipped financially or otherwise to deal with their problems. While the State spends Millions on Highways they should be spending more money on their Gang problem, their lack of quality education and recruiting Los Angeles and NY Police who know how to deal with Gang problems. And Governor Richardson has been in the News as of late; I won't go there but what has he been doing since in office? Apparently not much.

An Article that pretty much explains itself.

WHile ABQ might have some gangs, which big city doesnt? Gangs in L.A. or NYC or Chicago make ABQ's gangs look like the Mousekateers. Be concerned, but dont make it out to be some gigantic concern for people looking to move there.

Gee, and to think I was just telling someone that I like the kids I meet here much better than the kids I met in my old city, teenagers included. I actually LIKE the teenagers I've met so far in ABQ. Fancy that.

This is interesting - I teach, and based on VERY limited experience, of one school in an extremely sketchy part of ABQ, I have to say that in the Bronx NY, the gangs were definitely not as "out there" in my old school as they are here. All day long I deal with kids tagging everything and constantly broadcasting their affiliations, with "13" on everything from their jackets to written on their hands with marker.

On the other hand, I feel that there is much more respect here for people who are not in that life. I don't mean that gang members respect and admire those not in gangs, but that they respect the choice and just leave them alone. I don't feel like the violence (what little of it there is - it's mainly limited to graffiti as far as I can tell) is just going to randomly reach out and grab me. I definitely feel safer here in a sketchy neighborhood at night than I did in NY.

Jadedstone,

thanks so much for telling us something we didn't know..Hello, like drugs and gangs are not part of most mid sized and larger cities, as well as small towns. Where do you suggest family consider living? Maybe on Top of Old Smoky?

HaHa! Well that woke everyone up. Talk about rattling the cage. I think those that judge a place based on it's news aren't the ones we want here anyway. I know I don't live for what's on our news. Extensive research produced a.......youtube video.

Once again the same fanbouis bring their heads out long enough to call anyone who dare say the truth about ABQ a troll.

Once again I am here for the weather NOT the culture or lack there of. there are many good people in ABQ however It has major Mexican gang problems which have been reported on many times. New Mexico also failed to pass an anti gang law a couple of years ago and has done nothing since.
Just last month I was chatting with a stranger who had been shot on the way home one night. This happens everywhere but in 47 years I have never bumped into it before. The fact is anyone who comes here can see the obvious. The most frustrating part is the fact that apparently no one here gives a damn. If I treated my home here the way Albuquerque locals treat the city i would be living in a trashed out 20 year old single wide with a dirt yard.

For the fanbois here, what will it take? perhaps when your own family is touched by ABQ's gang violence you will change your feelings on the issue.

jghoo - I don't think anyone who lives here will doubt there is crime and that some neighborhoods have some serious issues. I think it is the way Jaded approached the issue, especially given the fact they don't live here. Did the thread really need to be printed in bold letters. Yes ABQ has crime and gangs, and no one here will argue that. But we pale in comparison to most large cities, and probably somewhat higher than most mid-sized cities. I know I don't see nearly as much graffitti here as say, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angels, San Diego, San Francisco, El Paso (which has a very low crime rate), Denver, Dallas, and many others. I'm not saying the lack of graffitti here is an indication of a low crime rate. In fact ABQ's crime rate is quite high largely due to property crimes. Yes we have an average of slightly above average violent crime rate as well, but it is generally confined to areas in the SE and SW parts of town. I just don't agree when people say if you live in ABQ you are going to see crime all around you, because that just isn't true. I feel far more safe here than many cities around the nation. Lastly, I think Jaded should look to Boise, or Salt Lake if looking for Western cities with very little crime. But be forewarned, they have gangs as well.

Just a few things to think about before your go off on a tangent:

#1 - Using a phrase like "the truth about..." when you are describing a person, place or thing has little or no validity, because it will differ from person to person. Infact it will differ to the extent that there is no overall truth - so it becomes an aspect of that person, place or thing, but it is most definitely NOT the truth about that person, place or thing.

#2 - Generalizations like "...the way Albuquerque locals treat the city..." just don't help in getting a point accross, they just give thin surface, broad and pretty much useless information to people who may be looking for useful and insightful information about a place. Generalizations are superficial descriptions from one person's perspective.

Furthermore, according to current news articles in magazines like Forbes and Men's Fitness many Albuquerquens seem to be treating themselves and the city very well. Take a look at these articles http://www.cabq.gov/econdev/whyabqrankings.html (broken link)

Jadedstone,

What is the point of this 13yr old article?

http://www.blythe.org/nytransfer-sub...ize_New_Mexico

finmqa1,

Thanks for the well thought out response to what I know was a harsh post.

Casden,

I do not think I am on a tangent at all. My response is relevant to the prior posts.
#1 - uh whatever.

#2 - I don't believe this thread is about useful and insightful information. Most of life is from one persons perspective don't you think?

#2 - Fine, many parts of the city look like a shytehole. Compared to Nogales it is very nice.

#3 - The knockout punch to my ego. my spell check did not catch the misspelled "fanbois".
Thank God you caught it and raised such a notable issue with my "tangent".
For one as well read as yourself, I would have thought "fanbois" not such an obscure term.
In the future you may wish to skip over my posts as I am somewhat literate, and my posts could have more misspelled wurds in them. I will continue to enjoy the pablum from you as it is most insightful.

best regards
